Something for Everyone in the Growing PRS Tuxedo Amp Family

First launched in 2009 with support from musical powerhouses Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes and David Grissom, PRS’s amp line includes options for just about every musical avenue.

Joining our family of lower wattage amps alongside the Sweet 16 and the PRS 30, the Texaplex II and the Dallas II round out our “Tuxedo” line of amplifiers by providing 50-watt options.

The PRS Texaplex II amplifier provides fat, British-inspired notes that bloom with a perfect blend of smooth and crunch in a 50-watt package. Based on the original Texaplex, one of PRS Amp Designer Doug Sewell’s favorite Sewell designs, the Texaplex II is striped down for “the fewer knobs the better” players who prefer a quick setup time and has what can feel like days of sustain.

“This amplifier is the PRS interpretation of one of my favorite Sewell designs that allowed me to achieve all of my favorite rock tones.” – PRS amp designer Doug Sewell

On the other hand, the Dallas II is a 50-watt boutique style amp well suited for the working musician. Though it can cover many musical styles, this amp lends itself to single coil players as well as anyone looking for a high quality amp with plenty of head room to support their favorite pedals. Like the original Dallas, the Dallas II provides the classic, balanced sounds of 6L6 tubes, huge sounding cleans, and moderate overdrive. This amp is also available as a 1x12 combo.

“We have taken advantage of all the manufacturing and sourcing techniques developed at PRS over the past year to offer what we feel is a great value without sacrificing any of the features or tone of our initial Dallas model.” – PRS amp designer Doug Sewell

Other models in the Tuxedo family of amps are the Sweet 16 and the PRS 30.

The Sweet 16 amplifier is our original Tuxedo amp and is offered as both a head and a 1x12 combo amplifier. It couples 16 watts of cathode-biased 6V6 output tube power with features usually found on larger amps, such as reverb, a full TMB tone stack, and our transparent PRS master volume circuit. The tones can run from sparkly cleans with single coils to humbucking crunch. A full range of crunching cleans are accessible using just the guitar's volume knob, replacing the need of at least one foot pedal.

“Our pre-specifications were pretty lofty, but I like challenges. We wanted this amp to hit on all cylinders—price point, aesthetics, and tone. From drawing on designs in my background to doing final tone comparisons with David Grissom, all the tools were there to come up with a winner. This amp was great fun to produce, and I think that translates. I’m very proud of the Sweet 16.” – PRS amp designer Doug Sewell

The PRS 30 amplifier has an English sound with an American twist. This 30 watt amp features a quartet of EL84 tubes, reverb, and a special master volume that’s dialed out of the circuit as the amp’s volume is at max setting.

The combo version of this amplifier is perfect for the gigging musician playing small/medium sized rooms who is looking for a versatile amp that covers a broad range of genres and has broad tonal range. This model takes pedals well and no mic is required, making it an excellent “grab and go” amp.

“The PRS 30 excels at vintage EL84 tones while offering modern versatility.” – PRS Amp Business Unit Manager Mike Clark

All of our Tuxedo amps are hand wired in Stevensville, Maryland using hybrid circuitry techniques for consistency and durability. All pots, jacks, powertubes sockets and switches are chassis mounted and shielded wire is used where critical. Matching, closed-back cabinets are available in 1x12 and 2x12 configurations.
