I personally like both better than 57/08s.

Shawn, why only uncovered 59/09s?

Hi Steve,

We are only offering them in their current form as used in the Custom 24. However, to keep it somewhat streamlined, they are only available with nickel hardware.

Great news!

I reposted the above picture and the number of the PRS shop on the Vintage Rocker forum, assuming that that's ok.

Cheers

Shawn, will the 59/09s at some point also be available in a version that is compatible with the 3-way toggle and push-pull coil tap?

Cheers

They are compatible with a push/pull with toggle but you'll need to adjust the wiring to accomodate the pups.

Excellent news!

A couple questions though.

Will the 57/08s be offered like this any time soon?

Also, I just had ordered a 3 way push pull drop in assembly from you guys and am planning on doing the conversion to that from the 5 way rotary on my 2010(?) Custom 24 (in my avatar). It was LTD edition with covered 57/08s but with the rotary and I am going to change it to a toggle and push pull. Will the 59/09s with the new size of bobbins fit in my guitar without having to get new pickup rings? And I assume those would work with my new 3 way push pull assembly too.

Hey there^^^^

The "Squabbins" (square bobbins) 59/09 will fit into any existing PRS humbucker cavity and will work with the old style pickup rings. No modifications are needed!
The 59/09's are compatible with a toggle switch and push/pull tone pot, but the electronics will need to be modified slightly.

DiMarzio trademarked the double-creme bobbin pickup decades ago, and they are not bashful about enforcing that trademark.

Wonder if they could get around that with the squabbins....probably not but we can dream!

Just bought a pair today, but they're not the ones I wanted. I wanted the "burnt" cover version.

Awesome!

Instantly fell in love with the 57/08's, then loved the hotter 59/09 bridge, but head over heels with 53/10s (cleaner warmer) in my Experience PRS '12 P22

Agreed. Do your 53/10's "split"? If not, do yourself a favor and get the required mod. A split 53/10 in the neck position of my SAS is glorious.

In general, the neck pickup of the 53/10 set is perhaps my favorite neck pickup of all time!

Still love the 57/08s, especially the bridge. What great pickups PRS is making these days!!

I'm pretty sure I saw a vid where Paul was asked that. It seemed pretty unlikely any time soon but he didn't completely rule it out.

A push/pull isn't required. You can use a simple toggle switch if you just want to use the humbucker mode. The push/pull pot would allow you to coil tap the pickups.

If Paul has his way, the 57/08 will never be available for sale outside of the PTC. If I have my way, ...well.

Thanks. Is a push/pull pot compatible on a 2012 HBII with piezo?

Shawn@PRS
11-05-2012, 05:32 PM
No put we can add a mini toggle which will coil tap the pickups in the exact same way.

LJD
11-07-2012, 12:17 AM
Even better! Where would the mini toggle be positioned in relation to the other knobs and toggles on the HBII?

They just have to get a few $$ when you make one. From what I've heard it doesn't add much to the cost. Like $10. Carvin sells their pup with that option.

Was thinking... as good as it is for a piezo, I could live without mine in the HBII. I would prefer a coil tap mini toggle for each 53/10 (dual toggles). We could remove the piezo system, use the existing mini toggle position for one, and remove the blend knob/pot and put the second mini toggle in it's place. This way no new holes have to be made. Also, wouldn't removing the piezo guts free up space for sound and air to move through the hollow body? Would that not improve the overal sound?
