Which are your favourite concerts that you've attended? Share your pics & stories. Any concerts you still kick yourself for missing out on? Who do you still hope to see?

One concert I just missed out on was the Gilmour led Pink Floyd at Earls Court in London in 94. Although i've seen Roger Waters twice which makes up for it. He'll be taking The Wall to stadiums through next year and I thoroughly recommend it!

I have been to several hundred concerts in my life and the 3 that I would have to say were the best would have to be Foo Fighters, Santana & Kid Rock.

Bill Frisell at Rams Head on West Street in Annapolis was the best show I've been to.

Countless shows but the ones that stand out as extra special to me were Iron Maiden on the Powerslave tour, KISS 1979, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Van Halen 1980 Invasion tour, and Michael Schenker on his first solo tour in 1980.

One I missed and really wish I had seen.....I had tickets to see Ozzy in Hartford and Randy Rhoads dies in a plane crash a week before the show.......I was majorly bummed...saw him months later with Brad Gillis playing but was NOT the same.....

Stevie Ray Vaughn and the Fabulous Thunderbirds at Merriwether in the Mid 80's from the third row in the pit. The highlight was when Stevie sat down with a double neck guitar playing the lower neck with his brother playing the top neck of he same guitar standing behind Stevie.

ZZ Top, Wolverhampton Civic Hall, October 2010, next best was Davy Knowles on the Isle of Man in July 2011. Bon Jovi, Van Halen and Ugly Kid Joe in Newcastle June 1995 was also awesome, Van Halen blew away the headliners :)

Probably Clapton at the Garden on the "From the Cradle" tour.

I went with my father....I was pretty young at the time...larger than life.

i also have seen several hundred shows....so who knows...the first time I saw Derek Trucks at the Beacon when Dickey was still with the ABB was a trip.

i was also up close for the DMB concert at Central Park...Warren Haynes jamming with them playing Cortez the Killer may have been one of the best leads I have ever seen live...insane the amount of soul he has.

KWS in a small venue at Ridgefield, CT was probably the closest I would ever get to what it must have been like at the Fillmore.

KC and the Sunshine Band? If you saw the girls i was hanging out with back then you would understand!!!!

So many good ones! But the one that just pulled me in the most ever was Jane's Addiction at Eastern Washington University in about 1990. No reason to think it was going to be a great show, but everything just worked that night and it was magical.

I apologize for not having a formal introduction yet. In short my name is George, I live in Eugene, Oregon, turned 60 last birthday love to play guitar and only recently found a couple of PRS guitars I could bond with. I'll try to stop being a lurker in favor of being a member.

When I read the title of this thread it brought to mind a very small concert in Cumberland, BC. Around 2003 my wife and I were staying in Parkesville and while shopping in Courtney she sees an ad for tickets to hear a flamenco guitarist. We decided to go and found ourselves in a converted church someone was trying to create a music venue in. There were maybe two dozen folding chairs and a wood stove. Robert Michaels and two other guys accompanied him. I'd never seen playing like that from six feet away. It was just WOW! After a couple of hours he told me he was just getting warmed up but that was all they could use the building for.

Seen a ton of shows across the spectrum of popular music, but hands down Volbeat in Edmonton, AB late '11 was the finest display of a band feeding off a wild crowd...in short it was a once in a lifetime show the energy was through the roof....crowd Db just before they hit the stage was spiking around 110 Db lol pure awesome!

Some of my favorite shows were those I didn't even plan. I saw a band called Dag in a tiny club, on a whim, and they brought the house down. I saw Sevendust a few years ago in a club so small, they're lucky no one died of heat-stroke. There was a booking problem with the event center the were supposed to use. When it fell through, they played at a much small "local" club. There might have been 150 people in there and it was nothing but elbows, a-holes, and buckets of sweat. It was amazing. Incubus, also in a small club, was awesome. Then there was Van Halen around 1996. Front row, center. THAT was a party.

Bands I saw at music festivals that surprised me? Marilyn Manson. He put on one of the best "shows" I've ever seen.

But the most electrifying concert ever was on Metallica's Black album tour. I was in the Snake Pit (inside the stage) from beginning to end. To see the crowd from a few feet behind Hetfield, Ulrich, Newstead, and Hammett was the ultimate rock experience. And 20 years ago! Damn, I'm old.

Van Halen - Valentine's Day 1992 on the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge tour and September 27, 1995 on the Balance tour...
Danzig w/ Marilyn Manson and Korn opening - May 6, 1995. Two of the smallest acts that would soon be the biggest bands opening for GD was a good time...
Metallica - February 1, 1997 during the Load tour. Corrosion of Conformity opened and Hetfield & Co. played for about 3 hours! Insanely great show...
The 90's sure seem to be the Golden Age of my concert going life. I could list at least a dozen more...

Charlie Terrell - My favorite artist and good friend. I road tripped, à la Fear and Loathing, to L.A. for a visit and to see him play. About an hour before the show, we were talking about what songs I might want to hear and at some point he handed me a sharpie, a piece of paper and let me write out my dream set list and that's what they played. Made my "concert" life that night...

CSN&Y, around the same time (maybe a bit earlier, at the Cap Centre). They played over 4 hours, the other 3 guys gave Neil Young a standing ovation for his set. I didn't get home till 3:30 am...

Hey, I saw them year's ago at a small venue. It was just after Got No Shame came out. They were really good.

Man, I hate to choose, but I really liked Mr. Big. I was mesmorized by Paul Gilbert and Billy Sheehan, and Eric Martin is one of the best rock singers ever. It didn't hurt that I had row 1, seat 1 (with the numbers starting in the middle).

But my wife and I were escorted back stage with Peter Stroud at a Sheryl Crow/John Mayer concert, and nothing will ever beat that experience.

Damon is one of my favorite guitar players. Been trying to get a PRS in his hands for a couple years.. Zach from Shinedown is in the current Brother Cane lineup so there's hope! And Orianthi replaced Damon in Alice Cooper's band when he went on the road with Thin Lizzy so lots of rubbing elbows with the brand is helping my case!

My son toured with a band called CB7 that opened for 30 Seconds to Mars last Spring. When the show came to Detroit, they played the Fillmore, and I have to say:

Roy opened that show? Seriously? I have zero memory of that. I don't remember there being an opening act at all. It's possible that I got there late, but it's odd that I have no recollection of that.

Clapton was simply amazing. He played for two hours with no opening act. It's one of the only shows where I couldn't think of anything I'd hve changed, like song selection.

Rolling Stones 1997 - Camp Randall Stadium, Madison WI. 10th row center, right next to the catwalk.
Alice In Chains 1993 - Eagles Ballroom Milwaukee WI. 1st real concert I ever went to(in my most impressionable days as a young guitar player). Our whole band went.
Stone Temple Pilots 1994 - Summerfest, another band outing. The giant lava lamp screens on the sides of the stage were awesome.
Tool 2002 - Milwaukee. 1st time seeing them, amazed. When they were in their prime IMO.
Radiohead 2003 Alpine Valley, WI
U2 360 tour 2011 Soldier Field, Chicago. Was a bucket list show for me and was a great show.

In 1971, at Wabash College in its tiny gym, I sat on the hardwood floor up front dead center and saw, Humble Pie (with Frampton and Marriott), ELP, and Johnny Winter And (with Rick Derringer). There was no stage, so we literally sat right at the feet of the performers. Ah......the good 'ol days and small venues.

It was only like 5-6 years ago, somebody in Prince's band had a family emergency and they ended up canceling a few shows here in Chicago. To make it up to the people who bought tickets, they returned saying there would be a "special guest" for the shows, Prince and "special guest" was even printed on the tickets.

Lights go down, and all of the sudden: "Oh ah ah ah!" "Jungle Love" starts and... Wow! I had been burned on a bunch of reunion acts and this made all of my previous reservations melt away, Jerome did the whole mirror bit, the dance moves, the whole nine!


It pains me to say it but, too bad Prince sucked. :bawling: He seemed like he was just "phoning it in" if you know what I mean.

When I saw Bonamassa he didn't really respond to the crowwd much until half way through the show. Lifted the place up when he did. Really good show but I wish he'd been more communicative with the audience early on.

You had me searching yesterday, just to be sure. I found some reviews and Dire Straits played for two hours, so maybe Roy Buchanan did not open for them. Otherwise I could not find any 'proof'. Regardless, his performance made me forget who I was there to see!
The best shows always seemed to have an element of surprise. Imagine going to a show at a good sized theater and not being very familiar with the opening act. You see this humble 45 yr old man walk out on stage and plug a Tele into something like a Fender Vibrolux, Twin or a Roland JC-120...you wouldn't really expect much. If he happened to open up with a 'Hendrix song' like Hey Joe at 3/4 speed you might be heading back out to the parking lot to do some more partying. However, Roy was so damn talented and could tear your face off with those razor sharp tele tones. Roy and his little band made some beautiful noize that night.

Currently watching a DVD that came out yesterday of Phish at Star Lake Amptitheater in '98 (in the middle of a "Time Loves A Hero" Little Feat cover). The only commercially available DVD of a show I've been to...and it's probably in my top 5.

Too many concerts for me to just pick one. One of the benefits of growing up in the 70s was that the Stones, the Who, Zeppelin, Floyd, the Dead, Skynyrd, Etc etc in their primes were the regular concerts we went to. I retrospect I am surprised my parents let me go to see things like the Stones at MSG in junior high in the mid 70s. Different world'd.

I saw a Uk band called The Darkness a few years ago... Reasonably good show. Poor acoustics if I remember correctly but Justin Hawkins playing a cool solo whilst riding on a giant fake breast kind of made up for it!

A couple of them for me have been pretty recent. Grace Potter & the Nocturnals were incredible when they played ATL a couple months ago. I didn't want that show to end! Last year, I had a last-minute invite to see John Butler Trio. I was only vaguely aware of them prior, but man they totally blew me away.

I'll put Clapton up there. I don't guess the show was particularly memorable, but it was 1998 and I had only been playing guitar seriously for a few years. He was a big reason I got into playing, so seeing him live was a dream come true.

The single best moment was Steve Vai in Clearwater, FL in 2005. He played "Lotus Feet", which was his latest ballad at the time, and it was just transcendent. The emotion and the passion brought tears to my eyes. When the song was done, he got a huge standing ovation. I was close enough to see that his eyes had teared up, too. He was really moved that night. I've seen him live a bunch of times and that was definitely his best moment.

I saw Jethro Tull 10 years ago. At a castle's courtyard. It was the peak of a week-long road trip with my best pal and my girlfriend. The gig was way better then anything else I've seen before and the trip home was like riding the edge of giant storm that headed our way and eventually flooded Prague and drowned the very car we drove.

Only other remarkable gigs I've seen in past years were Pain of Salvation and Opeth, both of which are almost boringly perfect, so there's really nothing to tell.
I had the opportunity to see Korn on festival this year, but slept through it.

1973: Bob Dylan & the Band @ MSG...memorable as my first concert
1974/5, New Years eve....Blue Oyster Cult at the NY Acadamy of Music...memorable as my first of dozens of BOC concerts
1976, Blue Oyster Cult, with Styx and J. Geils opening at the Commack Arena, Smithtown Long Island...memorable for the first show I ever saw with my then girlfriend, now wife of 33 years. great opening acts for a change!
1977...Pink Floyd W.Y.W.H./Animals tour...WYWH & Animals in their entirety at MSG, plus the M-80 explosion that drove Waters crazy and inspired "The Wall"
1980.....Pink Floyd, "The Wall" @ Nassau Collisium (1 of only 8 shows in the USA)
2009....Blue Oyster Cult @Maxwells Hoboken, Fans only Show, 4+ hours, private room, limited to 50 fans/friends.
2010....Roger Waters, "The Wall" @ Izod Center


Oh yeah...and any time Neil Young tours with Crazy Horse and plays stuff from "Rust Never Sleeps" and "American Star & Bars".

1973: Bob Dylan & the Band @ MSG...memorable as my first concert
1974/5, New Years eve....Blue Oyster Cult at the NY Acadamy of Music...memorable as my first of dozens of BOC concerts
1976, Blue Oyster Cult, with Styx and J. Geils opening at the Commack Arena, Smithtown Long Island...memorable for the first show I ever saw with my then girlfriend, now wife of 33 years. great opening acts for a change!
1977...Pink Floyd W.Y.W.H./Animals tour...WYWH & Animals in their entirety at MSG, plus the M-80 explosion that drove Waters crazy and inspired "The Wall"
1980.....Pink Floyd, "The Wall" @ Nassau Collisium (1 of only 8 shows in the USA)
2009....Blue Oyster Cult @Maxwells Hoboken, Fans only Show, 4+ hours, private room, limited to 50 fans/friends.
2010....Roger Waters, "The Wall" @ Izod Center


Oh yeah...and any time Neil Young tours with Crazy Horse and plays stuff from "Rust Never Sleeps" and "American Star & Bars".

That's a cool list of shows! I can match you on Waters doing the Wall in 2010 but would have loved to see them do it originally.

I have many favorites, but first my top favorite:

Eagles - September 2008. Unfortunately I never got to see them with Don Felder but I'll take what I can get! Joe Walsh is my main hero and of course he played his @ss off at that show. Best live tone I've heard by far.

Lynyrd Skynyrd on the Rebels and Bandeleros tour
