I've been on a quilt kick for a few years, so voted that way, but to be honest I think I'll try a flame again the next time I get a guitar - that is as long as I can avoid seeing a certain double sided HB quilt first.

Like asking Blond or Brunette, the only answer is both.
If I really had to pick, it would be quilt.

Have I mentioned how cool that avatar is (lately) Dave? ;)

I guess I'm in the same boat. I tend to think that I prefer quilt but then I put flame on my PS.
It just depends on the guitar.

Of those choices, I pick flame, but on my PS I chose one piece burl.

I love quilts on other people guitars. Out of my double digit collection I only own two quilts, one production and one custom build where I chose. Everything else are flame tops. I can't explain but when it's time to pull the wallet out, flame wins out.

Umm you have a spalted???? One of the most badass guitars I have ever seen if I remember correctly!
i voted flame.....but I like uniqueness .....mineral streaks, etc to give it character.

And If its the one im thinking about a fine custom build it is!!! Feel free to let me know if you ever decide you would rather add more flame and part with that one!

flame, the quilt tops just look ridiculous to me

I honestly have no preference either way. If it isn't a Goldtop :-) , then I like a top that has what I consider a nice character about it. By that I mean not too perfect, not too symmetrical in the bookmatching. Having as many lines and fibers as possible line up just so is something that I know is paramount to some people, but not to me. As long as the center seam is done correctly, then any other aspects of a top will probably be fine by me.
And first and foremost to me, above all else, is the sound, feel, build quality, etc.

Nope! But heck, how often have I given you an opportunity by posting lately?
Flame as wide as wide can be with some chevron!!

I've tried to like quilt - I even owned a very nice one.... a VERY nice one.

They just don't work for me....The one's "quilt guys" go bonkers for? Look like the background on a bad velvet Elvis painting at some garage sale... ;)
Always liked FLAME - Flame maple tops and necks just do it for me. :D
This guitar will pop up used some day and I'm going to grab it! Flame top and Flame neck!
http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae245/Chutist/7985351333_e65d6e957c_b.jpg
But it's all good - the guys that like quilt are not trying to scoop up my prized flame wood and I'm not after their velvet. WIN WIN! :p

I love good quilt (especially tubular), but there's something about a deep chevron book matched fiddleback.

Whoa. That's a big scary commitment for a timid woodland creature like me!
