Are the strings on the SE Mushok tuned normally to EADGBE? If so, what is the string tension? If not, is it just as easy to adapt to it as it is adapting to a capo?

I'll be curious to see how people respond to this one. I experimented with the tuning on mine quite a bit. String size and tension (due to tuning) have a lot to do with making this model "feel" and sound right. I settled on 2 and 1/2 steps down from EADGBE. I'll have to find out what Skitchy used for string size. I'm thinking .13 - .62.

I use, basically 2 tunes on mine: B E A D F# b or A D A D F# a. Strings I use D'Addario EXL .014 - .068.

Can this guitar play clean? I'm looking to get down low, but in a more Steve Earle, John Mellencamp style of music. Like in Steve Earle's 'Even When I'm Blue'. Do these guitars have that kind of 'twang' in them, due to the tension, or are they mostly heavy metal machines?

sure it can. Mine I took to PTC and now has a Piezo system on it, so I also get some baritone acoustic sounds

My wife bought me some 14-68 baritone strings (http://www.daddario.com/DADProductDetail.Page?ActiveID=3769&ProductId=47&productname=XL157_Nickel_Wound__Baritone_Medium__1 4_68) for Christmas. I strung up my SE baritone with them and the improvement was almost night and day. I had been struggling with the guitar recently, namely with some feedback problems on sustained notes no matter what pickups were in there, and generally feeling like it was time to go a different direction. However, I strung up the guitar on NYE right before our show with the 14s, tweaked the truss rod a miniscule amount to handle the heavier strings, and friggin rocked it! I couldn't believe how much better the guitar sounded. No feedback problems either. I don't have any idea how it all works, but I'm sold on it.

The factory settings are 14-68 gauge strings tuned B to B (BEADFB)

I did not know this!! I would have tried them 2 1/2 years ago. They really make the guitar.
