I thought the Artist guitars deserved their own thread so here it goes.

Carlos Santana plays many different PRS guitars, but this one is his #1. Once or twice a year, he'll send guitars to us for set up, tweaking and general maintenance.
http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i68/gitfukintar/PRS/Artist%20Guitars/carlos-santana-american-ido_zpse1f8df00.jpg

First the truss rod is adjusted so that the fretboard is completely level
http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i68/gitfukintar/PRS/Artist%20Guitars/SANTANA-SALMON015_zpsc35d9f85.jpg

Then the frets are marked up
http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i68/gitfukintar/PRS/NAMM2013/SANTANA-SALMON013_zpsa3977c27.jpg

The frets are then leveled out so that there are no high or low frets
http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i68/gitfukintar/PRS/Artist%20Guitars/SANTANA-SALMON016_zps63225fb1.jpg

We crown and polish the frets
http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i68/gitfukintar/PRS/Artist%20Guitars/SANTANA-SALMON018_zps35b795d3.jpg

And now it's back in playing shape

This one came to us from Steve Austin from "Today Is The Day". This one is a true road warrior!

The headstock has a few minor scratches on it
http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i68/gitfukintar/PRS/Artist%20Guitars/STEVEAUSTIN008.jpg

The hardware is slightly tarnished
http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i68/gitfukintar/PRS/Artist%20Guitars/STEVEAUSTIN007.jpg

Some very light pick scratches
http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i68/gitfukintar/PRS/Artist%20Guitars/STEVEAUSTIN001.jpg

A little bit of wear
http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i68/gitfukintar/PRS/Artist%20Guitars/STEVEAUSTIN004.jpg

Plenty of life left in those frets (now that they've been leveled and polished)

Exactly my thoughts. The stick at the bottom-middle is attached to the case handle for easy access. ;) That thing was fed beer every night after a gig. Looks like Yeungling rust (some of it is probably in my stomach too).

From sweaty club to cold trailer and back to sweaty club..... and so on. I had to replace an old band members Duncan Invader on the road because the threaded tabs on the bottom of the pickups had rusted to nothing. BUT! there was a whole lot of stage blood involved.

I know that guitar will be just beautiful when you guys are done.

That Trem Routing is Factory. The Guitar is from 1991-1992. The Model of the Guitar was called a "Special". The Special was basically a Mahogany Body Standard with the Trem Routed for more range. The Guitar was marketed as the PRS "Metal" guitar as in Heavy Metal. It has HFS in read and Vintage Bass in neck. The Special's are kind of rare guitar, not only because they are from 22 Years ago, but because they only made them for a period of time. I have the old catalog from back then and when it said Metal Guitar, I had to buy that model.

A little history on this beast. It is the "1st" PRS that I ever owned. I say "1st" because it is technically the 2nd. I had traded a Les Paul and Stratocaster to get this against my dad's wishes and 2 Shows later, a I knocked over my Guitar Stack at the end of our show freaking out and the top 4x12 Cab fell down behind and my Black PRS Special was laying on a case behind the stack and the cab broke the neck in half. OUCH! It couldn't be fixed so I finished it off by smashing it onstage. I kept the body as a memento.

I really loved the Guitar, even though I had only had it for a couple weeks. I went out the next day and bought a Duplicate of exactly the same guitar. A Black PRS Special. This guitar played a very important role in my career. I recorded our 1st 3 Records with this PRS. SuperNova, Willpower and Self-Titled. I also used this guitar on Temple of the Morning Star and In The Eyes of God. I cracked the headstock and broke off a tuner by accident during a tour on the In The Eyes Of God Album and decided I didn't want to take any chances with this guitar getting fully destroyed. It means the world to me, as it STARTED my career in Music. So, I kept it in the case (that was also Destroyed), for the last 14 Years and have not played it. I was getting ready to tour in March-April in the US and Mar-June in Europe and saw the Article on the PRS Site where Len and the boys took a Black PRS with a cracked headstock and made it look like new. So, I got hold of the guys at PRS and Len said he could bring her back to life. So, tomorrow she will be arriving by UPS and I can't wait to play that Guitar Again.

I have been overly fortunate to have been Endorsed by PRS since 1994. Throughout my career, I have met Paul a handful of times including at the Factory and have been Treated THE BEST by PRS. They have always been 100% behind me and hooked me up with both guitars and helping me keep them serviced. I don't mean to go overboard, but they really do make the Best Guitars on planet earth. They also are Artist supportive beyond belief. I am truly grateful for everything PRS has done for me. Thanks Len, Shawn, Winn and Paul. You guys are the best and truly great people.

Here is a link to his blog with a rundown of his gear: http://gerryleonardspookyghost.com/2013/02/21/gerry-leonards-guitar-rig-with-suzanne-vega-full-details/

Here's a little something we're doing for Bryan Ewald. This started life as a natural McCarty Soapbar Standard. We taped off a faux binding and add a gold top and tobacco back and neck. With the Soapy in the treble position and the minibucker in the neck, it looks pretty damn classy.

Is that the normal PRS goldtop finish? It looks closer to a Gibson than the usual PRS goldtops I've seen.

Shawn? I'm assuming so since a LP Deluxe uses mounting plates under the pup. The mounting screw spacing is wider than a P-90 and the vintage minis have permanently mounted fine thread screws.

Junior Marvin stopped in today. Junior was the guitar player for the Wailers back in the day. What an absolutely delightful person.
He told us stories of the old days and even played a little for us. "Exodus" was the first album he did with the Wailers 1977 and in 1978 he performed in the "One Love Concert" in Jamaica. This is the famous concert where Bob Marely showed the bullet wounds to the crowd and then brought both candidates on stage in an effort to create some unity amonst the Jamaican people.

This wasn't a bad day at work!

It most certainly was a great day at work. Junior was so generous with his time. We talked about music, the old days and how he was offered a job playing with Stevie Wonder and Bob Marley on the same day, guitar techniques, how to solo soulfully, etc. It's not often that we get to pick the brain of a legend and he freely divulges the info.

I saw Junior Marvin and One Love tonight at the Hamilton in DC. He played the guitar in the video (408 MT?) pretty much all night, also played an Angelus to open the show. Dan Sachs was playing what looked like a Modern Eagle or something with McCarty electronics that looked to me, like faded jade glow; that was a great looking guitar even from a distance.

Absolutely stunning show and Junior made mention of being back in a couple of months.

Awesome Junior Marvin photos and video. My wife and I went to Jamaica on our honeymoon in 1978, when there was still a fair amount of political unrest, but things were cool for tourists. I was already a fan of Marley and the Wailers, Peter Tosh, etc., but it was a lot of fun to poke around in the local record stores. Not that Burning Spear was any big secret, but for me they were new, and two of the albums I brought home with me were "Marcus Garvey", and the companion dub version, "Garvey's Ghost" (same songs, but done in dub-style).

One of the things that stands out in my mind is that every morning I'd have a goat-cheese omelet, with some fresh fruit, washed down with a couple cups of awesome Blue Mountain coffee. Maybe the best coffee in the world.... And while everyone knows about 151-proof Jamaican rum, they also were selling this even stronger rum labeled simply as "Overproof", which was somewhere in the 180-190 proof range (in other words, almost pure alcohol, suitable for removing paint, cleaning brake parts, etc.) It was ridiculously bad by itself, but worked well with some fruit juices from the local grocery store.

Great music, and some great memories.

Thanks, Shawn for some awesome posts!

Orianthi recently sent two guitars to the PTC where Lenny worked his magic.

This one she calls "Manos"

Nice looking guitars. I'd love to see that crystal topped guitar up close.

I saw the show that night... It was amazing how many different tones he was able to get out of that HB!

Fresh from recording with David Bowie and currently touring with Suzanne Vega, Gerry Leonard stopped by the factory today to have his trusty Hollowbody tuned up. Gerry's a super nice guy and one hell of a player too.

Here is a link to his blog with a rundown of his gear: http://gerryleonardspookyghost.com/2013/02/21/gerry-leonards-guitar-rig-with-suzanne-vega-full-details/

Did we ever get the final result of the Steve Austin guitar?

Gerry is a terrific player and he was very gratious with his time.

Steve's guitar wasn't a total over-haul, we just cleaned it, set it up and replaced some hardware.

John Kadlecik, guitarist with Further, stopped by the PTC to have his trusty EG tuned up.

You can catch John on tour playing with his own "John K Band", as well as dates with "Further".

In 1994 I was 17 and joined a band with a guy who had a EG a lot like that one with the maple top, only it was a blueburst and had a pearloid pickguard. Humbucker in the bridge and two Fralin dominoes. It was the 1st PRS I had ever played or been around for any period, very sweet. He was only 19 or 20 when he got it, last time I talked to him it was still his #1 guitar.

The EG's are awesome guitars and way under rated. I had a Seafoam green EG with three Domino pickups for many years. The only reason I sold it was to fund my JA15 purchase.
