Years ago there was a few issues of Guitar World magazine which featured Steve Morse lessons. I have them buried away somewhere but I remember them being some of the best lessons I ever had. He would be such an awesome teacher. I'm currently working on getting example one from your first post up to speed. Thanks for posting!

Participating in Doc's new thread should give me the knowledge to upload videos eventually, so it will be my pleasure to share some funky voicings with you! "Baby, I'm a Star" rides the line of what could be considered disco, so you may be in danger! Besides, that CU22 with soapys that you're rockin' is just made for funk and scratchy guitar lines.

Hi guys!Tonight im working on hybrid picking, sweep picking and pentatonics over major7 chords. The progression is Dmaj7-Amaj7.I love the sound of the "rootless" pentatonic scale.Using the C#minor pentatonic over the D and A chord means you never target the root of both chords. The sweep arpeggios are Satch inspired from an old guitarplayer soundpagerecord.

I don't know what I would do musically with the knowledge and ability to do sweep picking, but it is something I have always wanted to learn. The combination of a light picking hand and the ability to choke the unwanted sustain from the passing tones is something I fear I will never be able to get down.

Hi guys! All weekend i have been working on Hedrixy,R&bish chord stylings, drills and slides and partial barres.Very tricky to keep time and have the partial barres to ring the right way.I came up with this little exercise with a chordprogression based on the circle of fifth. This way you can see and play all the same chord embellishment on different strings.

Hi guys!Tonight im working on rest-strokes.I got this from listening and watching Jeff Beck pushing down on the strings with his thumb really making the notes jump out of his speakers.I called it push picking at first for myself not realising its an old technique from country flatpicking if you use a pick and from classical guitar with fingers. So for me its basically using downstrokes as much as you can trying to be Jeff Beck with a pick.Works great with a cleaner sound, just alittle dirt to give it sustain. The power from the downstrokes will make amp distort more.Im not saying only use downstrokes but as an effect.Im coming from the 80s when it was alternate picking as a rule with the occasional sweep and perhaps some tapping for maximum virtouso sounds.Of course with a superdistorted amp for no nuances coming through. For a starter with this technique, listen or watch Jeff Beck play Brush with the blues, the first phrase.Try to get that sound with the pick. Please try with thumb too and hear what an amazing difference in sound it is,how much louder the notes gets.I guess thats where the phrase diggin in comes from :).

Worked on the harmonic minor scale today.I guess i was inspired by Paul Bielatowicz playing and his Steve Howe-ish vibe. That got me listening to alot of Yes lately including Trevor Rabin years. All this music has alot of harmonic minor in it or a major dominant chord in a minor key if you will. The E7 is here a dim7 really.E7b9 would be the correct name. The dim7 chord you can invert in minor third steps so in A minor harmonic that is Fdim7,G#dim7,Bdim7 and Ddim7.Over an E tonic they create a E7b9 sound.Yngwie uses this all the time.Changing to major in bar 6 is just for fun :).

Nice to get that Dominant (E7) tonic to (Amin7) change going on!. To accentuate it, play A dorian over the A-7 and A harmonic minor or A natural minor over the E7. To really sound hip, start playing the E altered scale over the E7, along with the F diminshed scale (Not just the F dim arp like Yngwie) and the e Wholetone scale as well. What also works nice is D dorian over the E7 and F major scale over the E7. These are subs Benson, Wes, Metheny, Django and Cparker, Coltrane, and almost every jazz player in history has used over a V7-1 progression in both major and minor keys. Fun stuff!!! Oh yea, the tune "yellow moon" by the neville brothers has some fairly simple but very cool sounding lines over a great goove with minor V-1s. Check them out, and learn the lines that catch your ear! Great to see you are working on things like this.

Hey Swede!
I have no speakers on this computer but I will listen tonight. I believe you are hearing exactly what I use to hear
and trust me, you NEED to break out of that one sound! You are most likely hearing the flat 6th as the flat9 of the V chord, regardless of if that V chord is in the song or not. You will probably notice its very hard to resolve to that note (F in your above sample) on the A chord. You probably trill off of it and or use it as an accent in your playing, and have to resolve it to the E note. (5th of A) The natural 6th you can reslove to perfectly well, once your ear can hear it, and that is of the utmost importance! You then can play the flatted 6th and resolve to either the 5th or natural 6th and it will sound equally beautiful to your ear. (After a while, the natural 6th will probably sound prettier!) Believe me, in the long run you will be EXTREMELY glad you did this. It will improve your playing regardless of what style or notes you wish to play at the time.

Hey Swede!
I have no speakers on this computer but I will listen tonight. I believe you are hearing exactly what I use to hear
