Here's what our Congress thinks about Meteors:
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)-The chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology said today that the committee would hold hearings next week “to settle the question, once and for all, of whether meteors exist.”

That was an amazing event. Biggest since Tunguska I believe. Quite the coincidence with the supposed 'near miss' a day later, but not related.

A lot of videos have been showing the Darvaza Gas Crater in Turkmenestein as the impact site.
Wiki - The Derweze area is rich in natural gas. While drilling in 1971, Soviet geologists tapped into a cavern filled with natural gas. The ground beneath the drilling rig collapsed, leaving a large hole with a diameter of 230 feet. To avoid poisonous gas discharge, it was decided the best solution was to burn it off. Geologists had hoped the fire would use all the fuel in a matter of days. It is still burning. Locals have dubbed the cavern "The Door to Hell".
