Since we've been talking about gear alot lately, I'm curious as to everybody's choice for a strap. Plus I'm needing to pick one up. I have a feeling that the PRS straps are going to be very popular and they do look very nice. So lets hear what you prefer and why.

I have two PRS black nylon straps (one with the signature and one with the logo) and one PRS leather strap with birds. And the leather one never gets used. I hate the way leather sticks to my shirts, so nylon it is. I also have a black nylon strap from Fret12 with their logo on it, and it feels superior in quality to the PRS ones, I like it best.

My favorite straps are the Signature Leather and Leather Birds. They are the only straps I use.

I need one too. My favorite one went with my Gilmour Strat when sold it - it came with it. Plain black and about 3.5 inches wide, it was just right and LONG enough.

I think i'm going to try one of the heavy leather PRS straps with birds, they sure look comfortable in the pictures. ;)

Stock straps are squally only around 53 inches.......just too short. I ordered and am waiting on a strap extended whichis the back end that is 12 inches longer to allow more length. I will report back when I get it.

Fiance got me the black leather PRS birds strap for Christmas: http://www.prsaccessories.com/collections/straps/products/leather-birds-strap
I love it, it's the first 'fancy' strap I've had, normally just use the cheap store-branded nylon things. It's well worth the extra cost and very comfortable. It also stays really secure and doesn't slip around on your shoulder.

I've been using the glove leather PRS straps for years. Like...since they were first introduced, both signature and birds. They last forever, are ridiculously comfortable, and work well for me. I think I have 3-4 of them. I like the ones with leather on both sides, as opposed to suede backing.

I'm also going to get one of the padded leather Signature straps for my SC58.

Some of these Richter straps (German company) also look great; I'd really like to order one of the Springbreak models sometime soon, but honestly, the PRS ones are so good I have put it off. http://www.richterstraps.com/en_US

Beautiful strap!

I'd bang up my guitars with the buckle though, as I'm fairly clumsy. LOL

I still love my old Ernie Ball nylon strap. Been using the same one since the mid 90's. I have another one stashed away as a spare. I bought another one in the 00's, but it's a lot longer than the older ones and doesn't work as well for me since I hike my guitar up pretty high. It'll be a sad day if my favorite old EB strap ever wears out...

Actually Les, that buckle is on the back side of the strap and hangs over my back. It's really not in the way. Very comfortable and really well built. (Brookwood Leather).

I'd love to find another strap. I have 1 main strap I've been using for like 15 years or better. Levy's padded 3" leather..but the back end(where you adjust length) is the typical nylon. I'd love to find another one.

Whatever I get, it has to have a smooth inside. Must slide freely and not grip on my shirt.

I like scary Levi's leather ones.
Need leather for the SG, as they are known for neckdive.
Leather grips a shirt better to prevent that.

Anybody know what the max length on the PRS strap is? I checked at lunch and the strap I'm using now is 54" from hole to hole. It's nice heavy leather and the spilt side keeps it from slipping around. I could do without the extra adornments. ;)

My favorite is my leather birds in flight strap. I just recently bought a leather dragon strap off of ebay and think it might be a knock off. It's ok, but the quality doesn't seem up to par with my birds strap.

I do like the look of the PRS ones. I'll get one down the line...

At the moment I prefer wide leather ones. For years I put up with the cheap, thin nylon ones that used to slip on the shoulder or dig into the neck.

Decided to try leather on both sides this time instead of suede on the inside like the others I have.

I fancy getting a PRS strap 'just because', but I'm not too keen on the loop through to adjust thing as it never seems to quite fit my size/shape. I tend to always use the Levys cotton straps with suede ends, always soft, comfortable and easy on the guitar's finish

Being 6'6" I'm used things being too short for me, it's a short person's world. This includes most if not all of the PRS straps. However, a strap extender is a great idea and I would love to know what you got and see some pics.

My Levy's leather one came yesterday.
Nice strap, but the leather is so thick I could hardly get the Schaller Strap Locks in, and I could not use the washers.

I also bought two more from Amazon, one by Levy's, and one from Planet Waves, they will arrive tomorrow, and I have more Schaller Strap Locks on order too.
These straps are easier to use, as they have the buckle you slide the strap through.
The other leather ones I have are a PITA if you want to adjust them, as you have to take the Strap Lock off to do so.

This is what I have been running on my black CU22 since the day I bought the guitar in 2006. It has continued to work great. Interesting, the specs say adjustable to 54". I measured mine and it is adjusted to exactly 54" but still has room to go a little longer if needed, at least an inch or two.

John, good to know it is nice.
I am getting away from a few nylon/poly ones I have, as they are not good on a Nitro finish like I have on my SG, plus they are slippery, and SGs are infamous for neck dive from the HUGE headstock and lightweight body.

That is why I bought the leather ones I have that are white on the inside part, they grip shirts very well and hold the guitar from neck diving.

What about these cotton straps?
Do they grip the shirt good too?

John Beef
04-09-2013, 03:39 PM
I think they're a nice combo of grip and slip. They won't grip your shirt so much that your shirt gets stretched into a awkward position while you're playing, but they grip enough to keep the guitar from neck diving. But then, my guitars haven't been neck heavy so much. If anything my CU22 is heavy in the ass-end.

CoreyT
04-09-2013, 03:50 PM
Yeah, only my SG does the dive.
All the PRSs are heavy enough in the rear to balance well.

CoreyT

Snagged a pic yesternight of all of my straps.
All but the second one from the left have the Schaller Strap Locks on them.
I have a set for them, have not got around to adding them to it yet.

Combination of PRS (two of them), Levys, and Planet Waves straps.
The Levy to the far left I got earlier in the week, but I am almost wishing I had not got it.
Trying to get away now from the straps you have to adjust by putting the one end through a slit in the strap.
Every time you want to adjust the strap, you have to get out your wrench and take off the Strap Lock.

Think I am going to mainly use the straps with the sliding buckle on them like the PRS ones and a few of the Planet Waves ones have on them.
Much easier to adjust the strap.

The two to the left of the PRS ones I also got this week, they are the scull ones from Planet Waves, and the black cotton one from Levy's.

Yeah, I have to many, may end up seeing if my younger son wants a few, as I think he only has one right now.
