Thanks. I guess it makes me a male chauvinist pig (or some other unflattering label), but I dig it. I wonder if in the days of Paganini and Bach and Wagner and all of those if they thought 'I'm in it for the music, but I gotta admit that the chicks aren't bad either.'?
Probably not. Probably I'm just a twisted man.

And this one goes from good to OH MY GOD at 0:41. This song takes me back to some very good days.

Hans,
No, I never have. I still want to get one, but I'm not sure when it'll happen.
I was thinking the other day how nice it would be to be able to go to Experience and take a camera. Out of the question for me right now. BUT, I'm already looking forward to the reports, posts, magazine articles, videos, etc. I can't wait!

Is is just me or is the singer a bit flat through the first half of the song?
I'm not trying to be critical, but that kind of stuff is distracting for me..
It's like when I broke down and got a CD collection of Elvis stuff. I had never really listened to him before and paid him little attention as I was growing up with the Beatles. When I finally did sit down and really listen to Elvis, I was shocked that he was flat on almost every song....

It amazes me that many people simply walk by street performers without taking a few moments to stop and listen. There are some talent folks out there.
My pal Duayer sent this one to me a few years ago and I've loved it ever since.

Good point Hans. I hope I can explain.
I still occasionally try to listen just to entertain myself but it's really been futile for a long time. I just can't seem to enjoy listening to music the way I used to; on that more elementary level.
I began studying the written note in 1965, still study today, and it seems I've lost my 'consumer's ear' as most commercial stuff just doesn't reach me anymore. Maybe it's the college degrees, or 32 years as an educator, but the commercial stuff just seems so primitive and simplistic, and I don't really learn anything from it anymore. I still love the commercial stuff, but rarely listen to it so I will continue to love it.
When I listen now, I totally concentrate on the music rather than just hearing it in the background. Not really listening for enjoyment, but a more critical listening in hopes to derive some education from it, which I do enjoy. So I guess in that way it's come full circle. I do derive enjoyment but in a much different way and for a much different reason than before. Yes, it has taken some of the fun out of it, but I wouldn't change it back now and wouldn't give up my education for anything. I hope that makes some sense the way I tried to explain, but that's the way it's been for me for some years. I don't always understand it either.
Music is such a wonderful thing. It can be so many different things to so many people. It is the superior language.

As I write this I am listening to the first OHMphrey album, which I somehow never knew existed, even though I love Umphrey's McGee. It's a few guys from OHM, and a few from Umphrey's McGee. This is a real guitar showcase. The first song has an alternate picked/tremelo picked line that's about as fast and precise as I've ever heard from a player whose name doesn't rhyme with Shmeola. Great bass playing too.
I love Rhapsody!

One of the most incredible street performers I ever had the pleasure of seeing was in the 1980s in Detroit. He was dressed in ratty old tux tails, knee high moccasins, white face and a big red clown nose. To hear his violin singing the Etudes and Caprices of Nicolo Paganini was something I did not expect. Standing there listening for more than 2 hours and totally blown away. In that time I must have put $50 in his violin case. He knew every classical piece I asked him to play and he played it flawlessly from memory. The best on the street I've ever seen.

When this movie first came out, I got absolutely sick of this song. But I watched a replay of it tonight, and thanks to the space of several years, I was able to once again enjoy the music in the soundtrack. Thank You God.

This is dedicated to the pathetic pouch of putrid pond scum who sat off the fire alarm in my building this morning not once but twice between the hours of 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM. It's a toss up who hates you more; me, the other tenants, or the poor firefighters who you led on a dangerous and pointless wild goose chase for your sick, idiotic entertainment. We hate you, your family, your dog, your cat, and everybody who looks like you. May every toenail you have become ingrown. May your cell phone and your eyeglasses fall into a clogged toilet bowl at the sleeziest bowling alley in town. May you hit your thumb with a hammer at least seven times a day for the next year. May you be stricken with crotch rot so profound that it requires the medical journals to be rewritten.
The next time you want to pull a fire alarm for kicks, please pull off your own ugly, useless, empty head instead. You stink, you fink!

P.S. - Since this isn't the first time this sort of thing has happened recently, some of us have a pretty good idea who is behind it. The management must have solid proof before they take action, but I'm not burdened with any such restriction. I'm free to act at any time I see fit. I've dealt with your kind of vermin before, and I'm ready, willing, and able to do so again. That's not a threat, just a statement of fact. And perhaps a bit of food for thought, that is if your microscopic brain can engage in such endeavors.
Find a new, less offensive way to get your jollies, you yabbo.

October is a big month for The Who. Pete Townshend's autobiography hits the stands today. Tomorrow, the DVD "Live in Texas '75" comes out. Then next week another DVD is released. All part of the big machinery for their US Tour that starts soon, and all good news for Mr. Goldtop! (Except for the tour; Can't afford to make that happen.)

Charlie Peacock's new CD "No Man's Land." It's been in constant play since it was released last Tuesday. Great artist, great musicians (including Jerry McPherson, Andy Leftwich, Jeff Coffin) and his usual amazing songwriting and production. (He's most recently known as the producer for the Civil Wars).

This is another one with Joe Ely's Band on the old set of the PBS show ACL. I don't remember exactly what year this aired, but it is the show that set the hook in me about David. To me, and no offense at all meant to the rest of the guys or Joe himself, there was only one star on that stage that night, and he was the one tearing up a PRS Goldtop. I hope that someday, somehow I get to own that guitar and be its caretaker. That would be a dream come true and an honor for me.

Grissom's Loud Music...He IS Mr. Tone!!!! the Who's Tommy. Beatles "Help" soundtrack...LTE (Liquid Tension Experiment)...uh, Tony Levin. Killer chops

I can't fathom how DLR can be so ridiculous, and yet so entertaining. Such great licks too--that was Jason Becker era, I believe.
Just discovered Minus The Bear--they're really good. Reminds me of a slightly mellower Incubus.

Yes, there is that element to him, huh? He's one of my favorite frontmen and performers of all time in the rock world. I'm rereading his autobiography from the 90's "Crazy From The Heat", and in it he says that 'now (his) voice sounds like four flat tires on a muddy road', so I think he sees his own strengths and weaknesses. I don't know of any other entertainer who was/is more polarizing than DLR.
I hope this version of Van Halen doesn't pack it in for good this time. I'd like to see them live just once more.
