Yeah Corey knows all too well about waiting for a guitar.

Glad the Tremonti was worth the wait!
Third time was a charm :D
I was going to give up on it if anything happened to it.

Oh man...I thought the SE CU 24 would be my first and last electric....but the 408 sounds like absolute perfection for me! lol I'd love to be able to go half humbucker half single coil....hmmmm...

When I started playing a year ago, I had a friend tell me that a guitar collection is never complete...I'm starting to think he might be right!!
My youngest son gave me that little Fernandes guitar a few years back after he quit playing it, but I did not get back into guitars again until I bought my Gibson SG '61 Reissue last May.
I thought that would be my only one, but less than a few months and I got the Santana, then the Custom 24, then the Custom Tremonti.
It is a very baaaaaaaaad addition I tell you.

Answer: Just ONE more.

Here is a pic of my 3 SEs. Any opinions on changing the pickups, rings and toggle cap to black on the Custom 24?

Nice choices there. I haven't tried the Valve Jr but it's got a good reputation. I know the Rebel sounds good! Plus, you can't beat those three guitars for the money.

The Valve Junior stock isn't anything special, but it is being heavily modded next week.

Bought the Custom 24 & One used and I only have $460 total in the 2 of them.

Now just waiting for the Clint Lowery Custom to be available.

Hello, I'm new to the forums, Just thought I'd post the pic of my first PRS guitar. I picked up a used Tremonti for $300.00 cash. It's a little worn in, but it plays great. http://s1011.beta.photobucket.com/user/marvin65/media/kiah026.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2http://s1011.beta.photobucket.com/user/marvin65/media/kiah028.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1http://s1011.beta.photobucket.com/user/marvin65/media/kiah028-1.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0

I have an '03 Tremonti that I've wanted to refinish as a gold top for awhile now.
The only thing stopping me is Mark Tremonti's autograph.
I just can't being myself to do it. :(

Thanks for the help getting that opened John Beef. That was my first attempt at Photobucket. Yes, I love the feeling of this guitar. It has the G&B pickups in there now, But i have a nickel covered Doug Aldrich set from Shur. I will be installing as soon as I get a wiring set. I put Deox-it on the pots because they were kind of scratchy, Not I have a bad volume pot on the bridge. The G&B set sound good, but I figured when I rewire I'll install the Aldrich set. Should be awesome after that.. Also I see you are from AZ. I live in Phoenix myself, Tucson before 2005.

Awesome, a Gold Top would be killer! I'd like to get a Tremonti in Black, with the birds on the neck, or a Bernie Mardsen next. I have a Korean Made Epi LP now also. Great Guitar, but a little heavy compared to the Tremonti. I do like the Stopbar tailpiece over the Tune-o-Matic. as for the Tremonti, I'd do Go over it and put My Own name on it! LOL.

So Sweetwater has some of the new SE Custom 24 in stock now, in the Royal Blue color. What do you think? Almost seems too blue to me, and I don't see any binding on it. What I'm waiting for is the black/gray color, should be in soon I think.

http://www.sweetwater.com/images/guitars/SECust24RB/M30593/M30593-angle-large.jpg

I have one of these in my store. It is VERY blue. So much so it's hard to see the flame veneer pattern. It is very bright and looks good under good lights but it's a little too blue for me

I'm quite fond of blue guitars but (sadly) I really hate the blue SE's. The one above being a prime example. Lighter blue and a bit of burst and it would have been sweet. IMHO, of course.

Have to agree... the whale blue SE's have been a bit of a letdown cosmetically. I think thy might be moving to a new shade of blue on one of the 2013 models (can't remember which one at the moment) but hopefully they pop a bit more!

I think the opposite has happened, if you look at the photo above, that's the new Royal Blue, even more blue than the Whale blue they were using in 2012. I agree with Zeke, it's hard to see the flame in the wood, and I don't see any binding on it either, which seems strange as it's there on the vintage burst model and the gray/black model that is just now coming out.

Hope you get your SE soon, and let us know how you like it.

Yeah Corey knows all too well about waiting for a guitar.

Glad the Tremonti was worth the wait!

CoreyT et al, how long have you guys had to wait for your brand new SE's after placing your orders? I placed the order for my guitar on February 19th, at which point the dealer said I would get mine with the next shipment of PRS, which he said had already been placed. On February 22, I called back and was told the delivery is on its way. Great! But since then, whenever I follow up I'm told that I'll be contacted when it comes in, which I definitely appreciate. I'm just wondering how long it usually takes for PRS to get their stuff delivered to their dealers in Canada? The store I ordered from is not the biggest dealer, it's not a big chain or anything, but still.....the excitement has turned into impatience, and is now slowly devolving into apathy. If this is par for the course, then cool...but let me know if it's not. My pawn shop pos guitar is killing me knowing that something so beautiful is coming lol.

I will chime in on this and agree with you guys as well. A month ago when I started shopping for my SE CU 24, I almost bit on the 2012 Whale Blue because it was being offered at a discount to move it out of the store. But to me, the flame on it was just too subtle and I desired more pop like on the Tobacco Burst. What I truly wanted was the Tobacco Burst, and I couldn't justify spending all this money on something my heart wasn't truly set on. Needless to say, I ordered the Burst, and I believe the Whale Blue is still at the store :P

Ugh, one time I sold some piece of guitar hardware to a Canadian, it took 3-4 weeks to get through Customs. I couldn't believe it. I've sold to people in Brazil and Croatia too, it took maybe a week each? I don't know why Canadian Customs takes so long!

When I ordered my SE Santana and SE 24 I got them within a few weeks.
The Tremonti Custom however was a nightmare, and is covered in a huge Tremonti thread here.

Basically it took months to get it as PRS sent my first one to a music school back East instead of to my dealer.
The replacement sent out UPS broke the headstock on it.
Third one sent is the one I have now.

Yeah the SE blue isn't whale blue anymore, it's royal blue. And like I said it's BLUE. I'll try to get a pic up for you guys who haven't seen it yet

My first SE took 6 months to come in. This was about 5-6 years ago. Normally when I order one for a customer it will arrive in about 2-3 weeks depending on what's in stock. I actually put in my store's order before the NAMM show and I just got a partial shipment last week so if you're ordering now be prepared to be patient.

WOw, that really is blue. Too blue. And you're right, you can't really see any grain in the top at all, not sure there's a point in having a maple top in this case. Honestly, it looks almost cartoonish. And somewhat cheap without any binding on it. I think having covered humbuckers would help make it look a bit better, but not much. DNW.

I love Gibson's Pelham Blue on a LP or SG, I love Fender's Sonic Blue on a strat and maybe a tele. But This PRS blue is just too intense, for me anyway. I don't like the lack of binding either, it would help break up the bluesness of it all. And the headstock being blue isn't good either, I agree with Desperado on that as well.

Ordered my first PRS Monday from Sweetwater. Just arrived today!! This guitar is amazing! Got the SE 245 Cherry Burst. The action was literally set perfectly right out of the box (sounds a bit cliche but it's actually true lol). I compared this guitar to a Gibson Les Paul Studio at a local music store, playing through the same amp that I personally play with and the same settings and this SE blew the Gibson away in every category. The sustain was longer, the pickups were more powerful and clear, the pots and knobs were smoother and easier to roll and the pups cleaned up way better. The SE was more versatile, played better in the neck and just felt better over all. Not to mention sounded better (for the style of music I like to play anyways.) If you just want a classic rock crunch tone, then go with the Gibson Les Paul Studio. If you want more modern rock tones with the ability to still play old school stuff then get the PRS =) I did and I LOVE this guitar. Best $599 I've ever spent in my life .

http://imageshack.us/a/img35/1382/imagejrnk.jpg

The only thing I plan on doing to this guitar is putting locking tuners on it and adding a split coil to the neck pickup. I think that would sound absolutely amazing. Other than that it needs no improvement.

Congrats mitchewr, I have a similar colour SE Singlecut, and if yours is like mine, the photos don't do justice to the actual colour.

In terms of locking tuners, I was going to put a set on mine but after replacing the nut with a Tusq nut, I haven't had any tuning issues.

That said I do like lockers for the convenience of string changes.

Yea, I've wanted a cherry burst guitar for a while now. A luthier in my area was building a custom guitar for someone and had the cherry burst finish about half done and I loved it. I might not have bought an SE 245 if the cherry burst wasn't available to be honest. Never been a huge fan of a regular sun burst and my Tele is already a sun burst so.

I'm really disappointed in the color choices for the SE Custom 24. The Blue is terrible looking in my opinion and I'm not a huge fan of the sun burst or the grey. They need to re-do the blue and make it not so dark and overwhelming.

Yup real Tusq fitted. Tuning is definitely more stable than the previous which was pinging every now and then on the G string. The tuning on the G was an issue too even with upgraded tuners (came with Gotoh fitted by previous owner).

Now I have no issues with the guitar at all. My tech set it up beautifully and it plays great. Probably one of my wisest purchases ever.

Yea it did come fast. But I'm also in the southeastern portion of Michigan so it's not very far from the Sweetware warehouse. Ohh the sustain is amazing. Better than the Gibson Les Paul Studio I compared it to. And even though they average 8 lbs, they're so well balanced that it feels like a feather when you have a strap on it.

Speaking of SE C24s though, I just noticed that on musiciansfriend.com they have a black cherry version! It actually looks pretty good in the pictures. I'm surprised they have that color. PRS.com does't even list black cherry as an option.

Hhhmm....the tuning has been pretty stable but not perfect. I definitely am going to get some locking tuners and then if I'm still having tuning problems then I'll have a real tusq nut installed. I would opt for the Tusq nut FIRST.
I added Phase II locking tuners to my Tremonti SE Custom and still had issues ... until I changed the nut.
Same goes for my SE245 ... the strings kept binding in the nut.

In reading feedback from other SE owners, I think it's safe to say that the nuts on almost all of the SE's have been an issue.

It's nice to have locking tuners for string changes alone, but if there are nut issues, those things aren't going to help much.

The only time I read any negative feedback (On various forums and reviews) on the SE's is the nut and pups and occasionally the tuners.

The pups... Well, that's a taste thing more than anything so can be filed away as 'opinion'.

The tuners... Perfectly acceptable in my book so long as the strings are wound onto the peg correctly andstrectched in. The most likely culprit and something that get's mentioned a lot is...

The nut. I think the actual materials used are fine it's just the QC on the cutting of the slots. I'm on my third SE and they've all had issues that have left me needing to have a new one fitted by a tech. The slots have been rough with binding issues (Which WILL cause the tuning issues) and in one case cut too low.

Don't get me wrong, I love the SE's and for my money there's nothing comes close to the overall quality unless you start spending some serious cash. Certainly the best imports and, IMHO, as good as the guitars costing 2 to 3 times as much from certain other manufacturers.

The QC on the nuts are the one thing that lets them down a touch. Everything else is as good as you could hope for the money spent or - in many cases - better!

The issue with the nuts are pretty disappointing for me and I know it was never an issue with the older SE's.
Am I wrong in thinking that the SE's are assembled in Korea and sent to Maryland for final setup and distribution?

That's correct.

I'm not sure about guitars sold in the UK or the rest of Europe. I presume they're setup and distributed by the UK / European distributors which will soon be / is now PRS UK.

I rememember reading something about the SE guitars on another forum and it was absolutely clear the QC on SE guitars is of a very high standard so the nuts are something of an anomaly. Certainly, i'd rather pay a bit more at the till knowing that i'm not going to have to spend more putting right a QC issue.

It has to be said i've seen much worse QC issues on more expensive guitars. Overall the nuts are a minor issue and thanfully pretty cheap to correct.

A minor issue, yes.
Unfortunately, it's a minor issue that effects the tuning stability and overall playability of the instrument.
A minor issue that has major consequences if overlooked by QC.

True, the cost of a new nut is just a few dollars but not everyone is comfortable performing this task.
Some may in fact make matters worse by attempting to do this themselves.
And there are some who may not even be able to diagnose the nut as the problem.
Add the cost of a luthier (and possibly freight) and this "minor issue" becomes a real pain in the arse.

Then there are threads like this, which lowers consumer confidence.
All because of a part that costs PRS well under a dollar.
It just makes more sense to correct the problem where it started .... QC.

Ahh.. Don't get me wrong. No one should be having to fork out extra cash to have something put right. Personally, i'd rather not have had to spend any money at all correcting a QC issue. But it does have to be looked at in context of the whole guitar. Sure, a badly cut nut will seriously affect the performance of the guitar but it's minor compared to say badly seated frets or poorly dressed frets or even twisted necks. All of which I have encountered on other more expensive instruments (Not PRS's) and would cost a lot more to put right.

Yeah, I wish PRS would take a good look at the QC on the nuts because it seems to be the one area where they aren't up to scratch and it's a shame for what are fantastic quality instruments.

But context is key and it's also fair to say that many people never have issues and receive guitars with perfectly cut nuts.

They stay in tune, and are also strung with 9 - 42 Cobalts.

I have owned geez, five or six? None of the nuts were bad. I have some basic nut files and usually have to open up one or two slots to fit my 11-48s.

I also have the Planet Wave Autotrim tuners on all of my guitars, but not for tuning stability.
I like the ease of string changes with them and no scraggly strings hanging off the pegs.

My guitars when I buy them get a full free setup and one down road too.
I wonder if the shop checks the nuts and may have filed mine, or I have just been fortunate enough to have gotten perfect guitars?

I would suspect th guitars with bad nuts are in the minority... But a high enough minority it gets noticed. With a lot of them it may just be a case of the slots needing widening a touch.

I've had 5 SE's and all of them had nut issues. The slots were not deep enough (strings much too high at the first fret) and the slots were all very tight and the strings would get caught in them. I'm very picky about my setups and these were all unacceptable. No problems at all with USA PRS nuts though.
After installing Graph Tech nuts on all the SE's (except one which got a Floyd), they all stayed in tune and played as well as a USA PRS.

Okay, since I'm relatively new to guitars, I am finding this whole conversation about nuts to be absolutely hilarious!! "All my nuts were bad", "All my nuts have been great!", "I love my nuts", "I need new nuts," "I bought nut sauce" lol I'm sure it was funny to you guys at some point as well! :D :D

That said, I hope I don't need a new nut lol...my guitar is supposed to FINALLY arrive today, but I am not going to get my hopes up. Geez, practically a whole month for delivery >:( Really not happy about that. Apparently there were some wind issues with the Chesapeake Bay Bridge last week....but still...a whole month?!?!

I ried the mechanical refills but they're too fragile and just snap.

I usually just use a blade the whittle down the 'lead' to a fine edge and then run it into the slots and blow the excess away. Easier on Strat nuts with shallower slots. If the slots are to deep then I rub some onto the underneath of the string or try and get a little of the powder into the slot.

Hi! Somebody, tell me please, how can I to differentiate PRS Custom 22 10 top from PRS SE Custom 22?

I want to buy on Ebay PRS Custom 22 10 top 2003 and I want to know that this is USA Made. Serial number 3 7922.

John Beef
03-22-2013, 12:37 PM
3 could mean 1993 or 2003, the 7922 part of the serial number means it's a 1990 and I don't think the 22 fretters were available then. Unless you made a typo, and it should be 3 79220 or something like that, in which case the serial number is consistent with a guitar made in 2003 in the USA. A 2003 SE guitar would have a D at the beginning of the serial #, and they did not yet make the SE custom 22 in 2003.

Aside from just serial numbers, the SE custom 22 never had a carved top, it was always flat, no contouring. USA Custom 22s always have a carved top. That's the easiest way to tell.

That's about the best I can do without some pics.

One more question for you guys,
Is it possible to install a locking tremolo bridge on a Singlecut SE without a tremolo? I wonder how it will sound.

It's possible. It's not easy unless you are good with tools (routers, drills, etc.) You will still have to measure everything out to be sure that the neck angle (if it's a set neck guitar) will allow the new tremolo.
I've installed Floyds on lots of guitars. I did install one on a Les Paul that was originally a stop tail. (I'll put a pic up if I can find it).
I'm a woodworker by trade and have the necessary tools and router templates.
It would be much simpler to do the job an a guitar already routed for a trem like an SE Singlecut Trem.

I've been considering "Floyding" a SE Singlecut or an SE245 but haven't decided yet.

After many US made PRS, I finally got an SE. Its a SE Angelus Custom w/electronics. So far I'm very happy with it. Great build quality, playability and tone.

And the case is extremly nice!

Very nice looking guitar. Using Google images I had a look at the EQ panel on the top. Does it include a preamp and do you have a 9v battery in it? It looks like the Fishman unit in my Ibanez acoustic single cutaway. As they say HNGD :)

sharpyg, Hey, nice guitar!
I'd love to hear what this will sound like. Have you try to play some Alter Bridge and Creed stuffs with this guitar?
If so, would you make some demo videos or audio files with this one? I've seen many people saying that they put real Tremonti pickups on their SE Tremonti but I haven't heard what they sound like. Does this guitar sound close to real USA Tremonti guitar?

Cheers

Yes it's one with electronics. 9V required for the 3 band EQ, preamp, anti feedback loop, and Tuner! The tuner is awesome to have, makes it very easy to...well...tune. Not sure who makes the electronics in the SE line but the US line uses a PRS/LR Baggs design. Not had a chance to plug it into anything yet but acoustically it sounds very nice.

Hmmmm...it's a real beauty, particularly with the chrome pups. I might be able to afford both in a few months, though it would mean grabbing a Mexican Tele instead of a US made. Not completely out of the question. There are some quality MiM models out there.

OK, So finally got around to taking some crappy shot of my SE CU24. I love it. It came perfect. Absolutely no flaws anywhere. 1st time posting from Picasa, I hope it works. I put US amber lampshades on cause I like the look better and I installed a Tremol-No and Schaller strap locks. I have had absolutely no issues with anything. I also put EB Cobalt 10's so I had to take a little sandpaper to the nut.(but only to the wound string slots.) No tuning issues, but I would like to put locking tuners on at some point just to make string changes a little easier. Thanks for listening:biggrin:

Looks terrific! ( I do have the exact same guitar after all :) ) I'm waiting for a pair of black lampshade knobs to replace the stock ones. I find them a little too easy to turn and I think the smaller lampshades will help with that, but the black will look good in any case. I may go for a set of locking tuners at some point, but it will be for string changing convenience - the turning is already very stable.

BANGIN. Really nice figure on that one, and the burst is perfect too. Seems like every quilt SE I see has a nicely figured top.

I've been avoiding GC since I heard about this run, don't want to get caught up in the snare of the quilt... it's happened to me a time or two before...

They do have a funny way of following one home, no? Anyways, great score Carl. Loving that top, the depth and color make it look like a burning fire! Any mod plans?

If anyone else is wondering, it looks like they also have the SE245 in a red/orange quilt and the CU24 in dark cherry quilt on the website. That's as close as I can afford to get to them for now!

My local GC had the 245 in the orange quilt. Very, very cool looking, although maybe because it's such a LP-type outline that I like that guitar better with a more standard burst, or plain top.

Never seen the 24 in the dark cherry, or the grey black for that matter, in person. GC has the 24 in a vintage burst, same color as my new Santana, but it's flame, not quilt, and it was nice but didn't grab me like this one did. No mods planned...yet...

Recorded a quick test-clip with it yesterday, just the SND 9/9+ straight to Logic with the free Torpedo cabplug,
will make a proper video demo of it when time allows.
https://soundcloud.com/richard-lainegard/test/s-ZIcqb

The verdict then? Best SE I have played or owned thus far, didn't need any setup pr attention
straight form the box. And nto havign played 7strings in ages (and then Ibanez) I really love it,
feels better than any other 7-string I've played (regardless of brand and price), just feels so "PRS'y" I guess
They really knocked it out of the park with this one!
If I have some qualms about it, it's that the bridge pup is a little too muddy for the really downtuned modern metal stuff,
but I love the neck pup, and for everything but that "djent-tone" the stock pickups will work just fine.

She has a set of the Black Hawks from Bare Knuckle Pickups as well as a set of Schaller M6 locking tuners and strap locks. I've also added a set of chrome Ibanez collet knobs since then too! I'd still like to have the nut swapped with a bone one but the stock one wasn't too bad (I dropped the gauge down to a much smaller set than they come with stock since this one is only tuned to Drop B, could use a nut filed for the exact gauge strings I use :top:).

They're like rabbits...two more this week :) both used and in damn near unplayed condition - so for just a little more than one new one I got two!

My love for the new SECU24 is no secret; with Cobalt .10s on these they sound and play amazingly well.

#1 - the Whale Blue on the 2012s is so damn dark, it's difficult to see that this one has a very nice chevron pattern - hard to photograph:

Mrs. Cantankerous was not very interested regarding the availability of purple in the US. Well, if she does kick me out, I can always make a shanty town out of all of the guitar shipment boxes that have piled up in the basement...

I just picked this one up by chance. The feel of the neck one of those Green Bat inlay SEs in a pawn shop was like a breath of fresh air, and that neck is what made me first seriously consider buying a PRS. 8 years and countless Maryland PRS' later, I finally got my first SE. Might be "the ugly one" of the lineup, but those Fralins sound gorgeous! Its got a super chunky neck and just about nails that old Junior tone.

I've just noticed this morning that the moons on the SEs are set more closely together than the US models at the 12th fret. Excellent move PRS!

Nice. Yours has Fralin P-90s, huh? That's a good upgrade. I can't believe how undervalued some of the SEs are on the used market.

Yeah I love the Fralins. This guitar gives my US PRS a run for their money plugged in. I'm with you on the value of some of these SEs - I was looking at a couple and you can barely get a MIM Fender for what these go for used, I can't believe it. I see you have a Fralin/Suhr combo in your Baritone? which models did you go with? I've been trying to decide what set I'm after for my blue Cu22.

I can't believe the price PRS is selling this guitar for. I feel guilty for buying it at 650. Should be about 1200.http://www2.snapfish.com/snapfish/fe/l=en_US/p/Organizer/AlbumID=5908809020/a=6917850020_6917850020/s_c=0/s_mvm=NAP/s_ru=FALSE/s_se=FDR/s_reg=reg_main_lite#state={%22pl%22%3A{%22uc%22%3A 2%2C%22aid%22%3A5908809020%2C%22pid%22%3A244557463 020%2C%22pidx%22%3A0%2C%22vp%22%3A%22s%22%2C%22sb% 22%3A5}%2C%22ovm%22%3A{%22v%22%3A%22s%22}}

the SEs' prices shouldn't go any higher! Or else people in countries with high import duties (like Malaysia) will have to pay the price of USA Miras or Starlas to get an SE :( to curb the guilt, why not go get yourself an S2 ;) i believe they are priced at around 1000

Might be "the ugly one" of the lineup, but those Fralins sound gorgeous!

Hell, no! i wouldn't call it ugly at all, it just looks more understated ;) the grains are matched nicely, so i'd say it's a pretty lucky guitar to get the almost "matching" grain pattern (and you're the lucky owner!) I've seen some others with non-matching grains, my SE is an example. The backwood has like, 3 different tones for the 3 different pieces, so the differences are quite obvious. If it weren't for the beautiful maple-top, it'd be ugly

Look on Ebuy. Type in PRS SE- musical intruments in the search. There is a music store in Colorado that had a special run of 250 spalted tops done for them. They are very beautiful, but I've got Singlecut fever. Help! Is there a working treatment (other than 1 of every model?)

Here's my first year Tremonti SE.
I installed a PRS Deep Dish II pickup in the bridge position but it looked really beat up, so I found a set of EMG style covers to help clean up the look.
I also refinished the headstock with a PRS signature logo.
This guitar has the best action and the best sound of all of my guitars, with the exception of my '86 Custom 24. ;)

I also have a SE 245 in route that I just purchased and I'm looking at the new Tremonti Custom as well.
I LOVE these guitars!

That's real sexy. What year is that sucker? The guitar I mean.
Is it one of the newer ones?
Got my Tremonti SE Custom a few months ago. I was looking for a singlecutaway cause I have a few PRS doublecuts already. Before I found the Ttremonti Custom, all the SCs I tried had WideFat necks that I don't really like.
The front runner was a new SE Custom24. It had the WideThin neck that I love. It was tobacco burst flame. Decent looking but...then I found the Tremonti in the end of an aisle and BOOM...perfect and exactly what I was after. A SC with a WT neck.

Now the reason for my little story...
If I had seen a CU24 SE that looked like yours, in gray black, I probably wouldn't have kept searching for the SC and my Wife would have "leaned on me" more to get the CU24..and I would have bought it and been happy.
Very nice looking axe you have there.
Please don't take this the wrong way but...I sure am glad they didn't have one that looked like yours does that day I went SE SC shopping. I wouldn't have my Tremonti right now I'd have one that looks just like yours and I would have been happy as a clam...but I would have still been GASsing for a SC.
Congrats on the great axe at an incredible price!

it's an old one, with the 3-way toggle, moon inlays and a flat top which is not visible in the pic. I have one too, it's pretty much the only guitar that I will ever need. But then, lately because of GAS... I'm wanting another one! (or two more, or three....)

It's an 07 I believe, serial of "H". Funny, the color is the only think I'm not real thrilled about. I've never been one for black guitars. I started playing ibanez when I started on electric, and they are know for their bright colors. I also have a shell pink strat, black's never really been my thing, but I love everything else about the guitar. (Well maybe a pickup swap in the future.) But it's more the fact that Trent gave it to me. It's the story that makes it cool.

Also, what can anyone tell me about these? I'd like to know what I got and what pickups, neck, whatever info anyone might have.

Black guitars are classy ;) real classy... like Victek said, those pickups are the SE HFS and VB, also standard on the newer SE Customs. The main difference would be the top is bevelled now, instead of a flat top like yours (and mine too!). The 3-way toggle is now dropped, and a 3-way blade switch is used. They also added the push-pull coil-split for the tone pot. Oh, and the moon inlays are replaced with the old-style birds, which happened when they pulled the standard SE Custom 24 from the catalogue and introduced the 25th Anniversary Edition, with the quilted tops. The birds stayed on the fretboard too when they did the 2012 update on the SE Custom. Apart from that, they're pretty much the same, I guess... maybe nicer flame veneers are used or it could be my eyes are playing tricks on me haha

Yeah, they've shuffled some of the features around. I like the curved top on my 2012 SE CU24, but would choose the toggle over the blade for the pickups if that was an option. My blade switch came with a black tip and I swapped the gold tone and volume "speed knobs" for black lampshades. I'm thinking of swapping the creme pickup covers for black ones to complete the black theme.

By the way, does HFS really stand for "Hot, Fat and Screaming"? LOL

I like the pickups. I'm debating putting some bareknuckles in there just for some thing a little different. I really like the zebra pickups so what ever I get will still be those colors. I really like red guitars. Like the new SE SC245 in that scarlet red. Some black guitars are ok. I like the les paul black beauties. This one color wise just doesn't do it for me. If I bought it I'd never picked that color.

Beside all that, what neck does this have on it. I see the new ones have a wide thin neck and was wondering if this does also.

I was all into metal stuff, so I swapped out the bridge pickup for a D Activator. After a year playing it, the neck pickup developed a buzz that I was unable to remedy, I swapped it out for another D Activator in the neck. Now whenever I go to my nearest GC and plug in any SE Custom, I felt that the stock pickups were somehow good enough for me and I didn't appreciate it well enough! The funny thing is that, instead of mahogany like the US Custom 24, it uses a 3 piece maple neck. The body is a 3 piece mahogany, so no complains for me at this price range. Now this is a very subjective thing for me, and may not be true for others. I feel that the older wide thin like the one on yours are just a hair thicker than the post-2012 wide thin necks. The fretboard edge also feels rounder on the older ones, but that could be because I've worn it down already. I love red guitars as well! Been thinking about getting a CAR strat but my girlfriend was like, "You already have a red one!" :iamconfused:

Here's mine :)

It's very scratchy up close, since I don't take drastic measures to protect it from gigging elements. Not the prettiest flame top, but I've started to appreciate it more lately and I'm quite pleased with it. :) Also, please excuse the lower resolution of the pics, I only have my trusty phone camera with me! :P

That's a beautiful guitar. If i was going to go with dimarizos I would go with air classics or something like that. I'm not really into newer metal so the d activators dont excite me much. I'm thinking of getting a set of the mule from bareknuckle, but might keep these. Still debating it.

I would love to have a guitar that color.

LOL

Now you got me thinking how it's going to look like ;)

the pickup is indeed named HFS because it's "Hot, Fat and (it) Screams"! Sounds corny but effective as a name  Just like how they named Paul's signature guitar Paul's Guitar. Exceptional and easy to remember :top:

Yeah, I've been thinking about getting another guitar designated for metal and move the D Activators there. I'd put in something softer in the SE so that it does more things. It's also versatile now, but I'm wanting a fatter sound to contrast with the bright and clear D Acts. Maybe a Norton or similar output in the bridge. I'm undecided on the neck pickup as of yet, but I have the sound that I've been wanting in my head already :D

The last time I checked they do sell the 2012/2013 models in Black Cherry in musician's friend, so that's your chance there :D

Sweet! I have definitely decided to sell off my Mushok baritone to free up funds to buy a Lowery, whenever I can find one to play in a store. All the initial reviews are really good so far.

I'm guessing you're a fan of natural colours and the stoptails  i know right... But that's a really reddish-brown collection :P

I actually really liked the Whale blue color of the SE CU24 I didn't like the Wide thin neck nor the pups .Yes I 'm partial to stopbar tailpieces .

I def have a love/hate with black guitars. Was excited to find a black one this clean. My heart broke just a little putting those stainless pickguard screws in...

Very cool, man :top: do you get lost on the fretboard? Playing on dot inlaid fretboards from day one, I can't seem to read the bats well

It's got dots on the spin of the fretboard. Plus I'm more of a rhythm type hacker, I've never been much interested in lead or soloing. So I'm not normally trying to do anything intricate. After looking at it for a few months I think the bats are not symmetrical enough for the guitar (or any guitar for the matter). It is what sets it apart from other PRSs, but if I had to nitpick my own guitar I would have placed them more traditionally.

New to the Forum. I traded for a Singlecut SE in Antique white last week. I thought it would look cool with black hardware...

Not a bad way to spend a whole $245 IMO.
I like the simplicity of the Ones, but what do you think about a lack of tone knob?

So, you're telling me that my guitar has a wide-THIN neck? That's the thickest neck I've ever owned. I was actually wondering about that today...going to have to start reading these all the way through.

Sorry, made a mistake regarding your neck carve, it's a Wide Fat carve. I wasn't paying attention to the 2 missing frets at the dusty end of the fretboard! WF is very comfortable neck for chording, I love the way they feel when playing with bluesy phrases and doublestop stuff. It just feels right, with lots of meat to wrap my mitts around. Wide Thins are just a tiny bit thicker than Ibanez thickness, feels more like a standard thin neck rather than "shreddy" neck. After trying a couple of the newer S2s, I'd say the Pattern Regular necks are my current favourite! Very Fender-y feel there, like a '60s C shape, meaty but not too big to be uncomfortable.

So, in the beginning of the year I got my SC 245 SE from Sweetwater, and it was face meltingly amazing. Loved it. Well since then I've changed the strings to 10s and had a push/pull pot put in the neck tone slot to split the coils. Here's the good and the bad from that. 1.) 10s on this guitar did NOT sound good to me. Not sure why as I use 10s on everything else but they made the neck pup on this guitar sound extremely muddy. However, the push/pull pot has been a smashing success. I have just got the guitar back from my luthier today after having him out 9s back on it and setting everything back to factory specs and it sounds better than ever. And the push pull coil split sounds like glass! Man I love this thing! If you've been considering adding a coil split to your SC 245 SE, then go for it. You'll never look back.

Well, here to create my first post on this forum.

Last saturday I bought my very first PRS guitar and since then I've played my new baby as much as possible, a thing my girlfriend might've resented. Well, you guys will understand most likely.

It's a PRS SE Custom 22 (yes, it's an oldy) which I purchased new from my local guitar shop in the Netherlands. I was looking for a 'Les Paul' type guitar when the sales guy came up with this beauty. It was basically love at first sight. Never thought I'd come to love PRS's but now I'm hooked. In fact I'm kinda in my mind looking at what PRS to buy next!

But hey, no pics no glory so here are some (crappy phone) pictures.
