Stunning!! :o
Pete, that is amazing. What was the finish problem you mentioned?
A small crack in the Nitro. No worries, it happens. I am glad it was caught before shipment, I don't know if I would have been able to let it out of my hands had it arrived here with me! :D
I'm a little late to the party but here is my take:
The problem which has been a huge gripe with myself and PRS is that gap in the middle while the top and bottom of the board are touching. When they run the wood through the joiner to level the edges, by taking off the points that used to touch it throws the boards out of alignment. It happens every time there is a gap like that no matter what the type of wood. Yes there is some change due the top carve but this is even more a factor.
It seems to me that if they would run the boards through the joiner before the boards are split for the book match this problem would be greatly resolved.
I was supposed to ask Paul this question durimg the Birds And Moons question session at the 2011 Experience which I missed due to being in the emergency room with a kidney stone.
Ron:
Thanks for that explanation! I have been wondering that for years, why these beautiful tops on 10-Top, Artist Top, Wood Library Run and Private Stock Guitars aren't book-matched better. BrianC and I have discussed at length in my journey of owning 50+ PRSi over the past 4 years.
Maybe that's why I have developed such a serious affection for Private Stocks with one-piece quilt tops!! ;)

All kidding aside, thanks a ton for that explanation!

All citey, foolz!
These were my first two custom ordered private stocks. They were also the first built with figured claro walnut which came from the same board. They are also the first two snakewood fretboard (and "Santana stripes") PSs.
