Is this a deal breaker for anyone else?
I was thrilled when PRS announced the new Artist Package. I envisioned a McCarty 58 in faded blue burst quilt ten top, uncovered 59/09's, Mixed hardware, figured maple fretboard and neck, and all was good..........until I saw in my head the black headstock overlay on top of all that figured maple goodness.... which is not an option to leave it as a plain maple face.
Kind of ruins the aesthetics for me......don't want to sound like a chick hung on the looks of something, but for a good chunk of change for what would be my own version of a Private Stock guitar this kills it for me. Wondered if anyone else had this thought, am I the only mental case with this hang up, and can one be had without the overlay? I don't even care about losing the inlaid signature, would settle for the gold stickered signature if it could be had in maple.
Thanks for listening, this is cheaper than therapy........ :?

Are you talking about the collection series? http://www.prsguitars.com/privatestock/ ... ccarty.php
I think it looks perfect on that guitar pictured. Either way, I know what you're talking about. The overlay looks better with some colors than others IMO. Wouldn't be a deal breaker for me though.

OH. yes, with the maple board, that looks terribly wrong.
Re: Is this a deal breaker for anyone else?
It looks like one black sock! I don't really like it either.

Yeah It looks wrong to me.....I would liquidate a guitar or two to fund one of these in a moment if this could be had with the maple face.......maybe on this forum the right people will read this?
Even the Pope grants a special dispensation for a good reason/cause once in every great while? 8-)
Re: Is this a deal breaker for anyone else?
I have to agree the natural maple looks better.
After all, what looks better than natural maple except Carrie Underwood (Who I'm watching on TV right now :o  )
Re: Is this a deal breaker for anyone else?
I wouldnt mind the ebony overlay if I was getting a dark colored guitar, but I really like the maple on maple as well.
Add a maple trussrod cover and you have something bordering on perfect
Re: Is this a deal breaker for anyone else?
What about a maple color-matched headstock? That would be a deal maker for me, on any of the models.

Same here.
Re: Is this a deal breaker for anyone else?
The ebony cap wouldn't bother me, but I'd be getting an ebony board. It looks out of place on the maple.
Re: Is this a deal breaker for anyone else?
I agree. Black looks wrong on the maple neck. :ugeek:
Re: Is this a deal breaker for anyone else?
Black headstock with maple fretboard = JUST PLAIN WRONG!!!!!
Re: Is this a deal breaker for anyone else?
Reminiscent of the old CE's. I'd have to see one in person to be sure, but at first blush, a Maple headstock is my preference...

Re: Is this a deal breaker for anyone else?
Hans.....that's the beauty of Private Stock.......everyone gets their version of 'right'..........besides you have gotten so many right you can be forgiven for wearing black socks with shorts just once 8-)
Re: Is this a deal breaker for anyone else?
I don't see what the big deal is, from PRS' perspective. If you're going to offer a customizing program with all these options, is it really that big a deal to leave the maple headstock on a maple neck/board alone? And just let it be maple?
They make an specific point on the spec sheet (IIRC) of stating that the only fretboard allowable on the maple neck....is the maple board. So I don't see why they can't leave the headstock alone. (And also considering that in the color list there's plenty of body colors available with 'natural back').
However also to the OP, have you confirmed on this being the only configuration through a dealer or PRS? Just because they slapped it in the promo photo like this, doesn't necessarily mean that come build time its an absolute, unless someone has specifically confirmed this to you.
Re: Is this a deal breaker for anyone else?
Shawn, is that a photoshop job on the site?
Why not leave the face natural?

What about forgiving someone for wearing shorts with white socks and loafers?
