Thread: A Genuine PTC Challenge

  1. #21
The sad truth for this guitar is that it would be cheaper to buy a clean 1990 PRS than it would be to restore this one.

Even if the headstock can be repaired, it needs a fretboard, a refret, a refinish, and all of the hardware. Even then, the hole in the maple top would always be visible unless it was refinished in an opaque color.

Sleeby and I just discussed it via email and we both agree, the only real value for this guitar would be as a marketing tool for the PTC.

This is where my head was at as well. The fretboard image drove it home.

I am chanting your name right now.

It's the challenge I'm hungry for, I'm not even a big fan of Customs... we'll see how drunk I am on Saturday when bidding ends.

Well, I would do it over time, kinda like a project car(just like a tenth of the cost) and as I learn the different techniques and repairs. yeah Id spend that, but over probably a couple of years.

TBH the thing would make a neat wall decoration if someone bought it and decided not to fix it.....

I'm pretty sure we can find some parts. There are 5000 members here. That's a lot of spare part drawers.

Whoa! Gone! Guess I'm not worried about that project anymore... Good luck to the brave person who grabbed it.

I saw King Crimson back in 1995/6. At one point the lights in the theatre went out and the only thing anyone could see was a glow-in-the-dark Strat body bouncing around strapped to Adrian Belew. It was awesome! Do it, Sergio!

When I went to that link, I saw the item for sale, then ebay showed me a whole bunch of aledgedly brand new stripped bare PRS, Gibson and Epiphone guitars (missing all electronics and hardware). Some of the Gibson models even specified the year 2014 with this year's 120th Anniversary inlay. All of these were clearly offered by the same outfit as each of the ads were all clones of each other except for the different colored guitars. Is it safe to assume that these are all counterfeit? And if counterfeit, how could they still be running ads like that. I thought the manufacturers and ebay worked together to squash counterfeit ads like that.
