I honestly have no preference either way. If it isn't a Goldtop :-) , then I like a top that has what I consider a nice character about it. By that I mean not too perfect, not too symmetrical in the bookmatching. Having as many lines and fibers as possible line up just so is something that I know is paramount to some people, but not to me. As long as the center seam is done correctly, then any other aspects of a top will probably be fine by me.
And first and foremost to me, above all else, is the sound, feel, build quality, etc.

Tight chevron flame all the way!
I've had some nice quilts over the years, but I tend to go for flame tops.
Flame as wide as wide can be with some chevron!!

Quilt, I like the uniqueness every one offers
I've tried to like quilt - I even owned a very nice one.... a VERY nice one.
They just don't work for me....The one's "quilt guys" go bonkers for? Look like the background on a bad velvet Elvis painting at some garage sale...
Always liked FLAME - Flame maple tops and necks just do it for me.
This guitar will pop up used some day and I'm going to grab it! Flame top and Flame neck!

But it's all good - the guys that like quilt are not trying to scoop up my prized flame wood and I'm not after their velvet. WIN WIN!![]()

I love good quilt (especially tubular), but there's something about a deep chevron book matched fiddleback.
