    As awesome as this one is (I love dark figured wood) why is the finished guitar not matched down the centre as in the first pic?

    The grain in the rosewood family isn't as tight and regular as the maple we are used to seeing. It moves a lot even with a little bit of a carve. They do warn you in the vault that this will happen. Here is another example. This top is rosewood (vs. Markie's Cocobolo).

    Ah, OK makes sense, many thanks for the explanation! Never thought about the 3 dimensional aspect of the carved top and how the grain will change through the thickness. Dohhhhh
