This would be considered "a bargain" for a Dumble ODS combo. Out of my league...but I try to follow them whenever they become available out of curiosity...I've seen a similar combo fetch $80,000 in the past year.Originally Posted by Steph

Right there with you Doc. As folks try to reverse engineer and copy cat a Dumble with only modest success, the prices for the real deal keep going up and up and up. Who would of thought in 65' that a fender black face would sell for seven times it's value in 30 years and the prices still climbing. Or a 69' hemi cuda convertible selling for a thousand times its value and climbing. I see Dumbles as an investment, I just cant afford one. Heck, it took me all this time to get a PRS! Dumbles may not make Stradivarius prices, but I can see them making there mark for sure, and deservingly so. I love reading auction descriptions for Olympic White strats from the late '60's or early '70's as the seller promises you that "you'll have that Jimi Vibe" or "you'll sound just like Hendrix".

Fractal now has a Dumble ( Steel String Singer) Robben Ford copied Amp on it's list of modeled amps now. But at 2199.00 on sale, I Just cannot get down with that regardless of the ziliion amps that Fractal features.
Yeah, I like what he said to about not sounding like Ford unless you are Ford.
I'd just buy a Two Rock and let the extra 45k in my pocket help me get over the differences. You can pay for a lot of counseling sessions with that.

Closest I'll likely get is an MDT.
For starters, each one sounded different, as each was tuned to the preferences of the buyer. So it's hard to compare them to current amps.
However, Two-Rock, Quinn and Bludo make some Dumble-style amps that sound fantastic. I prefer what I've heard from the TR, which I actually like better than the Dumble sound for some reason; I think it's even more open. But I'm not as huge an aficionado of that sound as Tag, who is really into it, and he'd probably disagree.
I've had several Two-Rocks, and loved them all. But I honestly found I prefer my HX/DA, that isn't like anything Dumble at all. Go figure!

Tag had Quinnamps clone his #183. It is now known as the "TKT 183". It was built as an homage to the infamous "Tag Knows Tone". Tag's biggest problem is that he can't walk away from a good argument with regard to "Dumble tones" vs. Marshall and other amps. He DOES know tone! I am having Quinn build me the identical amp. Supposedly a dead-on clone....all the same parts, including the NOS components. Tag has alienated those "Marshall fan-boys" who can't accept the fact that he prefers the tone of the Dumble. Tag and I share a lot of characteristics....like the inability to just shut up when we strongly disagree with someone.
Tag says that it sounds EXACTLY like his Dumble, so that is good enough for me. Hopefully, the amp will be done by the end of the year. With regard to my existing amp collection, I have to reiterate that my HX/DA is by far the best amp I've ever owned with regard to tone, versatility, ability to mold and shape different sounds....my CAD MDT is a close second...but the HXDA is in a different category. I've never had an amp that was so capable of articulating a nice smooth over-driven tone at very low volumes. And, as Les has mentioned before...it is soooo well built. Just turning the knobs allows you to feel the quality of the build.
You'll like the Dumble tone, but remember to be patient learning to dial it in. It's not just a matter of turning up the gain; there are two, cascading gains, and each has an effect on the tone of the amp. Also, the tone controls are very powerful, and especially the midrange will affect the gain staging. If you're getting bright switches, gain setting switches, etc. in this build, that's more stuff to fiddle with, which is not a bad thing. Lots of great tones in those amps.
Finally, I've found that Dumble style amps need to be pretty loud to sound good; I can record my HX/DA in the control room, but my Two-Rocks needed the cab to be put in the separate recording booth, as they needed some volume to sound right for recording - at least to my ears. Which bled! LOL (Not really, but I did have to crank them quite loud to get the recorded tones I wanted).

Back at the first Experience, Paul brought out a Dumble that he had just purchased for something like $45K. and the Original Sewell and Dallas amps sounded much better.. Especially the OS..Man I just can't see 50K.
I'd like to hear one just to maybe understand.

Of course this is my opinion and tone is in the ear of the beholder. so no disrespect for Dumble!!!!!

I'm curious....has anyone here played through a real-deal Dumble and compared it to something like a Two Rock? I'm interested because I have a TR ODS, which I love. I have no clue though as to whether it resembles an actual Dumble ODS in tone. Yeah....I can hear you tube videos, but it's not the same as playing one. Regardless, I have enough trouble justifying TR prices much less 10x that.... so I won't be grabbing after any Dumbles.
Supposedly the "D" in MDT stands for Dumble. I also love the MDT, but it doesn't bear any resemblance to the TR ODS.
