Phase III Tuners, school me :)

Was reading up on using them yesterday since they will be on my 408 MT, but this is for the Phase II ones, but I take it restringing is the same as the IIIs.

In this picture here, what tool is this?
They say to use a coin, I take it a nickle is about the right size?
I like the looks of that tool better though.

With my Planet Waves Autotrim locking tuners I have on all of my guitars right now, there is no string wraps on the peg at all since the cutter cuts it off near the peg.
Do you have to do any wraps at all with the Phase tuners, or do you cut the string off near the peg once you start turning?
By this picture it does not look like there are any wraps at all.

These are very easy, line up the hole of the tuner with the string, pull string until snug, take a nickel and snug the lock (Dont over tighten or the string will break right at the lock.) Dont use any wraps, they cause tuning issues, I made that mistake when I had sperzels.

No wraps. Turn the tuner so the hole points to the nut, and pull the string hand tight. Then tighten down with whatever I can reach that fits in the slot. Washers, dimes, pennies, anything works. Snip the string at the tuner post. Tune to pitch, stretch, tune to pitch.

    Thanks guy's.
Yes, zero wraps with my Autotrim ones.
You could not wrap if you wanted too, as it cuts the string off shortly after you start turning the peg.
Glad to know there are no wraps with these tuners either.

I still like that curved tool though in the pic.
Maybe Shawn can get those available via the store?

Fingers work for tightening the knurled knobs, too.

I don't have any phase II or III experience, but finger tight is all that's needed on my other Schallers. I'd suspect the top slot is only really needed to loosen a stuck string when you're taking it off, like the wings on the original PRS tuners.

One of these days, I'll put Phase II's on my HBII...
