Question about original EG Series

Greetings, I have three CE guitars that are just awesome and locally there is an EG from the early 90s available. I have heard that that the neck pockets are prone to cracking on these. My question is why? I understand that that body wood is alder and the body shape is slightly different. I have never had any issues with my CEs and was wondering what caused the body cracks by the neck pocket on the original EG series.

I have heard this too, but I have never seen one with this problem in person. I have an EG-II from 1993 and the neck pocket is perfectly fine. May just be an urban legend...?

I have an EG 1 Series II ( I believe) and a CE22 ( mahogany body/maple top) both from early 90's. Both are fine -admittedly never gigged and treated well.

Interesting, I have had no issues with my CEs and there does not seem to be a problem with them. I wonder why those EGs had the perceived issues of neck joint cracks?

I have seen more than a few EGs with those cracks. I look at them enough on Ebay to know that the cracking is fairly common, but why? I don't know. It could have something to do with the slightly thinner body and the longer neck tenon, or maybe the contours of the CEs strengthen them more?... I'm too uneducated to give you an answer, but if I saw one for a great price I would pounce on it! They seem like really cool guitars.

Just a guess, but PRS's come stock with 009's lots of players like thicker string for more bottom and volume, possibly they are overtensioning these guitars.
