    fretboard

When I play seated, I can see my fretboard fine..But when I strap my guitar on and play standing I cant see any of my fretboard, just the dots on the neck.I have tried adjusting the strap to extremes but to no avail..why cant I see the fretboard whilst standing..Give it to me straight..

Is it because you have your head thrown back, basking in your rockstardom? That happens to me. Then my two year old tells me to turn down.

Hunched over metal stance might work. Not good for your back though.

    More belly needed.

OR, you could tape a bag of popcorn to the lower back of the guitar to act as a kickstand and move it out a bit. Plus, you'd have an on-stage snack....

I have to agree here. I had the same issue when I first started playing standing up. Now, it's mostly ALL feel. I will glance down to make sure I am rooted in the right location, but after that, it's all memory and feel.

For me it's all about strap height...and its a feel thing not a visual thing...you would be surprised at how much your visualization of the fretboard has nothing to do with it...I want the guitar to be in the exact position im most comfortable playing...ask the guys whom I spent the weekend with at Mark's...I was really particular about using my own strap...I don't play Jimmy Page style...I find if I do it's sloppy with lack of control...I would try a higher strap position and see if it helps. Plus remember your side markers if you need to see where you are at! I realized when I went to a guitar without fretboard markers how little I actually relied upon them...it was quite enlightening...now a guitar with insane inlays that's a different story...I find they can be distracting big time if I look down.

That works with a slightly shorter strap.

If you prefer your strap longer, you just have to get really excited about the music!
