    Waiting For The Man

Here he comes, he's all dressed in
    brown
PR shoes and a big straw hat
He's never early, he's always late
first thing you learn is that you always gotta wait
    I'm waiting for my man.

(Lou Reed, Probably Written While Still Waiting at 3:30 for 10:30 AM-2:30 PM UPS Delivery)

    YES!! The BIG Day!!

Yup. Huge. And it generated a lovely conversation with someone I know:

“You need to get a life!”

“Where did you get yours? I’ve looked on Amazon.com and haven’t been able to find one. I’ve even googled it. Nothing. Besides, if I get a life, I’ll have to get a death, and while that seems to be easier to come by, no one seems to really want one.”

“You know what I mean! You don’t go anywhere or do anything.”

“Yes I do. I go to places on the internet, where I hang out with lots of people, and we do stuff.”

    “Such as?”

“Well, such as, we, um, well, we ogle guitars. Then we congratulate each other for acquiring them. Occasionally, we argue about certain features, likes and dislikes about them.”

    “That’s not living.”

“Well it certainly is once you add in ogling amps and congratulating each other for acquiring them. And there are acoustic guitars and pedals. Pedal arguments are not for the faint of heart!”

“Sorry. That is not a life.”

‘What if we throw in discussions about cables? People don’t realize how important cables are.”

    “No.”

“Well, what do you do that you consider to be a life?”

“I go to work and sell things to people.”

“Do you get to decide whatever it is you want to do all day?”

“No, my boss decides that for me.”

“Well, how is that a life? That’s your boss’ life, not your life. You need to get a life. Here, you can borrow my computer while I look out the window for the UPS man.”

MAN DIES OF OLD AGE WAITING FOR UPS TRUCK, WIFE SAYS "I TOLD HIM TO GET A LIFE."

AP, UPI Detoit. June 20, 2013. Today relatives of a Detroit area man found his remains evidently sitting and looking out his window for a UPS delivery. The man, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, appeared to be approximately 150 years old, and to have died within the last 50 years. Neighbors said that the last time they saw the man, he appeared to be much younger and in excellent health, but had mentioned that he was waiting for the UPS truck, and it seems to have never arrived. The man's wife, who didn't look much younger than 150 herself, said she got that way by nagging him, but that she didn't nag him to death. She was heard to say that the UPS delivery did that.

    ALIENS ABDUCT UPS MAN!

AP, UPI Detoit. June 20, 2013. Today it was reported by reliable witnesses that a UPS man and his entire truck were abducted by a very large alien space craft. One of the aliens was heard to shout out the window of the craft as its tractor beam sucked in the truck, "At last we have that acoustic guitar we wanted! We'll send the rest of this junk back, but we're keeping the guitar." It is unknown where the aliens are from, but evidently they are flat pickers. One of the aliens was quoted as complaining that they had to wait a long time for UPS to come within range of their saucer's tractor beam.

It is unknown if the alleged abduction is in any way related to the death of the old man reported elsewhere in today's Detroit News.

The guitar came. I've been playing it pretty much nonstop since letting it cool off for an hour in its case (when I pulled it out of the box, it was hot from being in the truck).

It's a beautiful sounding, great playing instrument. I'm really lucky to have it!

I included the fingerboard detail because I decided to have the fingerboard and headstock sport a clean, modern look. So I asked for the J-birds and eliminated even the stock model's fingerboard and headstock purfling. So you get this simple, shiny black surface, like the finish of a concert grand piano, broken up only by the headstock eagle, and the birds and frets on the fingerboard. The J-birds strike me as modern and understated.

I think the ebony rosette sets it off pretty well.

I did leave the purfling on the body because I figured why not, but I do think the guitar has a fairly uncluttered look that appeals to my personal aesthetic for an instrument.
