Early PRS for sale online. Haven't seen one like it.

Just thought it was interesting but not enough to consider buying it. What do you chaps think of it?

This CE is probably a great guitar - and NOT because it wasn't built in Stevensville.

The ad copy is insulting and inaccurate with respect to today's offerings.

Love the looks of the guitar. The inaccurate sales pitch, not so much. I'm not sure what NZ price/exchange rate is, but I wouldn't pay that amount here.

It looks like this guy has spent too much time reading the PRS Gospel according to Ed Roman. PRS did not start production in Stevensville until 1996. My 1995 Standard 24 was built on Virginia Avenue.

With that said, the production guitar bodies have never been carved by hand. The CNC milling machines replaced purpose-built machines that were designed and built by Eric Pritchard (see http://www.pritchardamps.com/prs_history.cfm).

You're talking about the 'duplicarvers' which can be seen in the videos in this thread:

And duplicarvers were standard fare at just about every electric guitar factory for a very, very long time. As an example, Gibson had duplicarver molds and various jigs going way back in time that were described in one of the Ted McCarty articles a while back.
If something is too hard to do, then it's not worth doing. You just stick that guitar in the closet next to your short-wave radio, your karate outfit and your unicycle and we'll go inside and watch TV.
