New guy here. Hamer fan just got his first PRS

Hi. I've been kicking around the top of the bottom of the music world for a long time, doing the usual opening for big names and seeing friends make it while I got a corporate job. Along the way kind of figured out what I liked in guitars and gravitated two to brands: Hamer (I'm a long-time Hamer Fan Club member) and believe it or not First Act Custom Shop (check em out before you scoff: top-shelf stuff.)

Anyway for some reason or another I never really tried any PRS. The ones I did try were obviously nice but I didn't bond with the wide-fat neck. But a couple days ago I stopped in a GC on the way home from a trip and wandered in basically for a break and to look for weird used stuff. Saw an emerald green CE24 and strummed it.

    Hmm.

    Plugged it in.

    Very nice.

Got it for under a grand in very nice shape, just enough wear on the back to let me not worry about gigging with it. Polished it, polished the frets, adjusted the neck a hair and put new strings on it then had first band rehearsal today.

Think I may sell all my other guitars. Now I think I get it. It hangs so well on a strap, easy to play, and while maybe I didn't ape "classic" sounds, I play in an originals band and am not a slave to classic rock sounds: come on, I have a Kaoss pad and a Fuzz Factory on my board and play into a Valvetech VAC25, not 'zackly retro stuff. I was getting all the sounds I wanted, I played BETTER because the balance and neck are so good, and it stayed in tune the whole afternoon.

We're playing Smith's Old Bar Thursday night so if it keeps me as happy in a gig, that's it. I found the electric guitar that is easiest for me play, and beings me the most pleasure. Cool stuff!

Sounds like you're in the right place then. Welcome to the forums and congrats on the PRS score.

I still fondly remember the first PRS I played. It was years and years before I broke down and bought one. Everything else left the stable shortly thereafter. I definitely get your position.

I get it, too. Went from basically being a Gibson player (with some Fender on the side) to PRS in 1991. It's been a great ride!
If something is too hard to do, then it's not worth doing. You just stick that guitar in the closet next to your short-wave radio, your karate outfit and your unicycle and we'll go inside and watch TV.

    Welcome...

I've taken the journey you're on... It's a fun ride! Fair warning, these are like potato chips - it's hard to stop at ONE!

Thanks, everybody! One thing I've always enjoyed in (gulp) about ten or eleven years on the Hamer forum is the fellowship there: been to jams, bought and sold, and gotten some good advice from good people. I'm looking forward to meeting more of you here.

Yeah, I'm a little concerned about acquiring more PRSi. A DGT is so tempring. Though I'll gradually be selling a couple amps and guitars soon to free up the slush fund.

It's an item not advertised with all PRSi: an inhuman urge to have more PRS guitars now dammit now!

Welcome, it's a fun addiction to have and there are many cool folks here to give you tips and advice when you get your next. The good thing is you already know another is coming. And another.....

Dan-d-1985... I see you're in Edinburgh. I go there a lot! I played at Whistle Binkie's solo about three weeks ago. What a great city!

Welcome! Although you're not likely to find any $350 deals here.

    And we're really evil enablers...

Haha, glad to see another joining the family here I remember staring at PRS pictures and watching the Creed mv (One Last Breath, and yes Mark got me into PRS) with Mark flying his fingers all over the bird inlays in the intro...i'd do that all day long before i could get my hands on an SE. That "first time seeing it" feeling was inexplicably great. No one knows what's a PRS in my place here, which is kind of why i was educated the Gibson way. Soon enough, I played the first PRS ever (just an SE Custom 24) in my life, which later on became the first and also the only electric guitar I've ever owned. I was very grateful that my dad was generous to pay the full price for it for me Finally a couple of weeks ago, a new PRS dealer opened and I laid hands on a Charcoal Black 10-Top Custom 24 for the first time in my life. I didn't dare to plug it in because i think my chops weren't qualified for one yet!

I'm fully converted, the only guitars i've ever been completely satisfied with are PRSs. They do put out less traditional tones, but I'm not after classic tones, plus it's got awesome playability. That sold me on PRSs. Maybe i'd flirt with a couple of Strats or Teles occasionally just for different experiences (I'm also a fan of Fender) but I can safely say PRSs will remain as my mainstay choice for a long, long time.

Lastly, welcome to the jungle, polara! you know you'll lose yourself here we're all lost sheeps as well.
