Hi. I've been kicking around the top of the bottom of the music world for a long time, doing the usual opening for big names and seeing friends make it while I got a corporate job. Along the way kind of figured out what I liked in guitars and gravitated two to brands: Hamer (I'm a long-time Hamer Fan Club member) and believe it or not First Act Custom Shop (check em out before you scoff: top-shelf stuff.)
Anyway for some reason or another I never really tried any PRS. The ones I did try were obviously nice but I didn't bond with the wide-fat neck. But a couple days ago I stopped in a GC on the way home from a trip and wandered in basically for a break and to look for weird used stuff. Saw an emerald green CE24 and strummed it.
Plugged it in.
Got it for under a grand in very nice shape, just enough wear on the back to let me not worry about gigging with it. Polished it, polished the frets, adjusted the neck a hair and put new strings on it then had first band rehearsal today.
Think I may sell all my other guitars. Now I think I get it. It hangs so well on a strap, easy to play, and while maybe I didn't ape "classic" sounds, I play in an originals band and am not a slave to classic rock sounds: come on, I have a Kaoss pad and a Fuzz Factory on my board and play into a Valvetech VAC25, not 'zackly retro stuff. I was getting all the sounds I wanted, I played BETTER because the balance and neck are so good, and it stayed in tune the whole afternoon.
We're playing Smith's Old Bar Thursday night so if it keeps me as happy in a gig, that's it. I found the electric guitar that is easiest for me play, and beings me the most pleasure. Cool stuff!
