    My Twenty-Year Hunt is Over

A dream just came true for me. Many years ago I came across this 1993 McCarty Prototype, built a year before the McCarty model was introduced. Some of you may remember my all-black PRSi harem shots on Birds & Moons. This prototype perfectly matched the anal-retentive collection of PRSi I've been building for 20 years. I'm an avowed McCarty-style player (as opposed to Custom 24, 513, etc.), and this instrument seemed like my holy grail.

If you need a frame of reference, think about David Grissom's goldtop McCarty Trem he played endlessly before the DGT was released. McTrems: wanted, but rarely seen in the wild. As you know, the McCarty was issued with a stop-tailpiece in keeping with the theory it was going after that type of player/market.

Fast-forward years and at least three owners later, I finally located this elusive instrument, and got for a very reasonable deal. It's essentially a case queen. And how does she play and sound? All I can report after less than 24 hours is I understand the reason Grissom played the early goldtop above every other instrument he had. More to come, but here's the first photo as a teaser.

I'll try to do a new harem shot soon. Thanks for your interest in my long, long chase.

Yes! Wicked score man. Great looking axe. So what's next on thrill of the hunt list? Or is this the holy grail?

Thanks much, jfb! I've got a short list of other desirables, but it's pretty narrow at this point. I'm looking for black with moons. :-)

Love it when a chase comes to an end. I've ended my much smaller 2.5 yr hunt for an sc250 with thin neck.

Holy grails are awesome and worth the wait. Congrats and play the hell out of it!

Congrats and great score! I just recently picked up a long sought after PRS(avatar) and it's a great feeling to get that instrument in your hands after years of drooling.

Congrats to you! I can tell from your words how special a feeling it is. I'm a huge fan of David Grissom (as well as his Goldtop you mentioned), so I can relate.

Play it, and turn it up!

Is that the one Blue Hugh Music had FS? Such a cool guitar, one of these days I will get to play a McTrem!

Thanks much, folks. When I get a decent harem shot up, you'll see the extent of my obsession, which will put this thread into even more context. Now, if I can just find a black Archtop with moons, and maybe a black SC 58 with moons, I can prevent a divorce before things get worse. Thanks again. Anyone else out there with a unique PRS collection?

Awesome, brother! Our collections are mirror images, almost. You need a white 22-12. I need a black Archtop and SC 58. Keep up the great work!

Going to try to do a harem shot this weekend.
