Been listening to this today. I love how music has the ability to cut straight to the heart of a matter.... even if it is Anthrax.

    Sergio,

Thanks very much. The last few days I've felt lousy, but I'm doing better today. I hope things are going well for you my friend. It's a little early, but have a good weekend!

Thursday morning-ish. I hope everyone is doing well, getting ready for a long weekend. I haven't played any in the last few days, and man do I miss it! A little noodling around today, an appt. tomorrow morning, then my SE One in my hands for every minute possible for the next several days. That'll work!

I'm listening to a lot of my old favorites today. Good for The Soul! This is "Love Leads to Madness" by Nazareth. S-L-I-D-E S-O-L-O ! ! !

The Master, the late, great Gary Moore covering The Yardboids tune "Shape of Things"! At various points in this video - mixed in with the shots of chicks in torn clothes and Big Hair - are some 4-way split screens of Gary playing four different guitars. Cool little effect IMO.

P.S. - Sadly, none of the guitars GM played in this video were goldtops. Even The Greats like him couldn't have everything!

Hey everyone! I hope you're all having a great weekend. Maybe even a long/holiday weekend (at least in the USA).

I'm waiting for my beloved Texas Longhorns football game to start in a bit, and listening to some music. Big surprise. I'm also trying to recuperate from yesterday. What I thought would be a quick single medical appt. yesterday morning turned into a day with me being foolish and running around town and overdoing it in the awful heat. I AM READY FOR SUMMER TO BE OVER!

Thinking - and complaining - about the heat made me think of the late Donna Summer and this song. I wish the guitar in this wasn't so low in the mix, but oh well; I still dig it.

From the 'I'm torqued off and here's why' dept., David Grissom is playing tonight in Austin and where am I going to be? FIVE HUNDRED MILES AWAY, that's where! So I'll miss moments and tones like the ones in this video.

I've never picked cotton, but when I was a little boy we were seriously poor. During some especially hard times my mom and dad chopped cotton to make ends meet. They dragged me along and I worked in the fields too, although I couldn't have been much help to them because I was so young - grade school aged. I remember a lot of sharpening hoes with a file, carrying the water jug from our old car out into the middle of the fields and back for them, killing the odd snake now and then, and a lot of sweat and sunburn. And being scared. I was too young to fully grasp the situation, but I knew things were bad, and I was always worried about whether or not we'd have a place to live.

Looking back on it, what Johnny Cash sings about in this one sounds almost glamorous by comparison.

"I Never Picked Cotton" by Johnny Cash.

Goldtop Lloyd - No more cotton patches for me please.

It's all about LABOR, so in honor of that here's a "T-O-O-T" of "Six Days on the Road".

    The Dave Dudley version.

    The George Thorogood cover version.

Common Myths Related to Truck Driving: Eat where the truckers eat. They know where to find the best food.

WRONG!!! They know where there's a place to park with (A) plenty of room, (B) the least chance - hopefully - of their truck or trailer being tampered with, and (C) where they'll be able to find - hopefully - some 'chemical assistance' to help them stay awake for the next umpteen thousand miles. The restaurant could (and usually does) serve food that tastes like the remnants from a grease fire. And don't get me started on that waitress with the smeared lipstick and blue eyeshadow who looks old enough to have been on The Mayflower. You know; the one with the rat's nest hairdoo and the weird mole the size of a grape on her jaw. Guaranteed her name is Juanita, or Trixie, or Laverne, or Pearl, or Wanda... Her feet are killing her, she ran out of Right Guard last Tuesday, she's beyond tired of getting pinched in all the wrong places, and IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT! Now, what'll you have?!?

Yeah... Eat where the truckers eat. AFTER you update your will!
