What a Monday! Glad it's behind me, although the first snow of the year came Sunday night, which I love. C'mon cold weather!
Going in, I know this post isn't going to be popular with everybody. But, it is what I'm listening to, so it's honest. Love 'em or hate 'em... I love 'em. Of course, I like chili with ketchup in it, so what do I know? "SAS"... Swamp Ash Special? No, here it's "Solo Album Sampler". I like the backward bit in the solo in the Ace tune.

I really dug these guys for awhile. It seemed to me like they fell into the MTV trap at one point, trying to fit into a formula. But still some good music IMO. The first time I saw them was on their (I think) first major tour, opening for AC/DC on the "Back in Black" tour after Bon died. Great show all the way around.

Three takes on one of my favorite songs. Maybe more of the same to come, or maybe something else... Not sure yet.
I hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Solitary Man Part Two. (Actually, that'd make it 'Solitary Men', wouldn't it? And of course, if there are six of them in these two posts - not counting the groups - then they're not all that solitary, are they? Well, they may still be solitary in the ways of love... Yes, let's go with that idea.)

Sunday. When I think of Sunday, I think divinity. I think of divinity, I think miracles. I think of miracles, I think Smokey Robinson and The _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _!
I'm not anti-technology by any means, but when I listen to these songs I feel a little sad. IMO, for all of the advances in the making and recording of music, NOTHING can replicate the sound of these musicians with their 'simple' instruments and studios. That resonance, that feel, that space... This music has a built in swing to it.

P.S. --- Speaking of another kind of divinity, does anybody else remember the old highway roadside chain Stuckey's? I'm not sure, but I think they went out of business years ago. They had these things they called Pecan Logs, a stick of divinity rolled in chopped nuts. Ultra rich, ultra sweet, and ultra good!
UPDATE- After I posted this, I went and did some snooping. Stuckey's is still in business! If you've never been to one you might want to give them a try. Great shakes, burgers, etc., and the aforementioned Pecan Logs. A combination gas station/diner/soda fountain/tourist trap gift shop.

Poor old Kenny... Before his troubles with Lucille, there was Ruby. Such impeccable beard and mustache grooming, yet still unlucky in love. Well, he did spend a fair amount of time with Dolly over the years, so he couldn't have been all that bad off.

that one always reminded me of this one
"Ruuuuby, don't take your guns to town"
or
"Don't take your love to town son, leave your love at home Bill, don't take your love to town"

It's only a dig if you don't like Boxcar Willie.
My Mother used to listen to Dolly, Kenny, Johnny, and... yes... even Boxcar Willie. Your post opened a memory bank of a time and place I haven't remembered in a long, long time. I can sing you almost any old Crystal Gayle tune. Linda Ronstadt too. Got some Loretta Lynn? Anne Murray? Mickey Gilley? Conway Twitty? George Jones? Jerry Reed? I like 'em all. They take me back to fond memories of my Mother.
