I was thinking of waiting until Friday to start these, but I changed my mind. I'll still post 'regular' things that I'm listening to, but for the next few days I'll mix in some Holiday stuff too. I hope that's alright with everyone.
I thought that these first three would be a good way to start. They can remind us how really fortunate we are, and who deserves the credit for so much of the freedom we have.
Merry (Early) Christmas/Happy Holidays to Everybody

I've been talking for days about wanting snow, and what do you know? Last night it snowed and got down to 17 degrees here! YES!!! So, with that in mind, and with the appropriate thanks to Santa or ???, please let me say this: C'mon PRS Goldtop DGT and/or Stripped 58! You made one wish come true, how about another?! You made an old man happy once, you can do it again, can't you? From one bearded old guy to another, there's extra Oreos in it for ya!

Friday in The USA. The start of a long holiday weekend off work for some fortunate poeple. The start of a period of extra work and stress for others. And for many, some combination of all of the above.
May each of you have a safe and happy Friday and weekend.

I started tonight with The Barenaked Ladies, which led me to this one they did with Sarah McLachlan. After that, it's gonna take me a while to get back on track. I absolutely LOVE Sarah's music, especially this song. I could listen to this thing ten times a day and never get tired of it. She often has that Stevie Nicks abstract thing of 'what is she talking about?' 'What does that line mean?' Who Cares! Honestly, some I get, some I don't, but all I like.
Note: This video of "Building..." has the censored audio, so it's safe for all ears. It's only one word, but it's a biggie to some, so better safe than sorry here.

Staying with my mini-theme of Sara/Sarah. FLEETWOOD! IMO, one of the greatest, most underrated rhythm sections ever. Mick and John are magical together. I've babbled on before about how I'm into drummers and their styles. Mick is so incredible. LATE in the beat, but not too late. Builds that tension. And the tone of his drums. He tunes them - and they mix them - to sound round and soft rather than harsh and painful. Compare Mick Fleetwood's drum sound to that of Tommy Lee; night and day difference. Hard to believe they're using the same instrument. (No knock on Tommy intended AT ALL.) Same idea if you were to compare David Grissom's guitar tone to that of, oooh, say... mine for example. One guy sounds like a genius, the other sounds like he slammed his hand in the door. Anyway...

Happy New Year 2013
Happy Birthday Caitlin, I miss you
Folks, it may be an old cliche, but it's true: Love is the Reason for the Season. Things can change in an instant, so please, please be safe and careful and good to each other. We are all in this world together, so we have to take care of each other.

A few days ago I watched a documentary about Earl Campbell. For those not familiar with him, he played football for The Texas Longhorns, and was drafted by the Houston Oilers where he was coached by Bum Phillips. He was the Jim Brown, the Emmett Smith of his time, and IMO he was better in some ways than either of them. Nowadays he has a number of health problems due to both the pounding he took in his career, and a degenerative spine condition he was born with. He is a genuinely nice, down-to-earth guy, no star attitude or any of that, always has a smile on his face, and doesn't complain or have any regrets. He loves country music, and at the end of the documentary he sang a line or two from this song. So, this is dedicated to him...
God Bless Earl Campbell.

Tangent time again... This time, it's Merle Haggard. I imagine most people have heard the name, but if you haven't really listened to his music, you might want to give it a try. To me he's a National Treasure. He ruled the charts in the late 60's/early 70's, but as with most great music, his songs of that period stand the test of time IMO. Totally unique, and one of the last of his kind.

Ah, here we are... A somber Sunday. Peaceful, calm, getting the final plans in place for Christmas. For mood music, we need what? Yep, that's it; we need some ROCKABILLY-BOOGIE-ROCK & ROLL!!!
