Happy (I hope) Birthday to Peter "Ginger" Baker. Have you seen the documentary yet? It's "Beware of Mr. Baker", and I think it might be worth a look, if for nothing more than the history of the man. Not to mention the life lessons the movie illustrates.

How old is Ginger? None of your bloody business, you bleedin' wa**er!!!

No chance for sleep tonight. Music to keep me company though, so I'm not complaining...

Bluer than Blue. (I'm not really; The Redskins won last night, so I'm good. Even if it is just pre-season, a win is a win.)

I'm late with this because I didn't get a chance to post much yesterday. So, Happy Birthday (yesterday) to Robert Plant.

This is Phil Lynott singing to and about his little girl. Phil would have turned 64 yesterday. He's been gone 27 years. Hard to believe...

I've thought about this post off and on most of the day because I wasn't sure about it. But I've made up my mind so here goes...

Yesterday, Darrell Abbott would have turned 47. We all know what happened and why he's not here, so there's no need to get into it.

I listen to A LOT of music, but I've never listened to much from Pantera or Damageplan. Mostly because of the vocals. Some of the songs I like, some I don't, and that's the great thing about music. To each his own, and there's something for everybody.

But I was - and still am - a big fan of Darrell and his playing. And I love the fact that he was always honest, spoke his mind, didn't try to hide or change who or what he was, and he lived his life his way. Plus, he was a proud Texan, and most anybody reading this knows what that means to me.

So rather than post a video of his music, I'd like to suggest that you listen to some of it on your own. If the style or genre isn't your cup of tea, that's alright. But give it a chance, and listen to the guitar work in it. Or just go to YouTube and watch some of the videos of him talking and see how he was with other people and how he treated those around him. I'll warn you upfront that some of his language was graphic, profane, etc., so if that sort of thing offends you, then you might want to pass on my suggestion altogether.

(There is one video in particular that I've watched many times. It was done in Japan for a guitar magazine (?) and in it he shows some of his playing techniques and tricks, then discusses the songs on the Damageplan CD, then gets into the equipment he's using. Amazing stuff IMO.)

When I think of Darrell, I don't think of the nicknames or the catchphrases. I don't think of 'that night' and what happened. I think of the man himself. The one who was so sincere, so open, so honest, so real in everything he did. He loved music, he loved playing, he loved life, and he tried to make the most of every minute he had. I think about Darrell and his Spirit.

Happy Birthday to Kenny Rogers, who turns 78 today. How about a T-O-O-T of "Ruby"?

    Kenny's version.

    Cake's version.

    The Killers' version.

G3 - Steve Morse, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani - White Room

You will see a guy sitting at a table on stage drinking wine
That is the crew for the band.
This is one of my favorite Cream songs.
Last show of the european tour. During "White Room" crew members brought a table on stage and served wine to themselves and the band. Satch played a solo sitting on his tech guy's lap.

Vernon Reid of Living Colour turns 55 today. Middle age and he's still not a 'glamour boy'!

Layne Staley would have been 46 today. Even though they were lumped in with the Grunge movement, AIC never really fit in that category IMO. I thought (and think) music and lyrics like this are beyond any fad or category.

    (This is the clean version.)
