Parts and Labor. One of the fun things that have kept me away from the Forum (and the web in general) lately has been an ongoing problem with the headlights on my set of wheels. Several trips to the shop, checking this and replacing that, and my lights still have a mind of their own. Some days, they work fine. Other days, they twitch and wobble like an old lady sitting on a heating pad waiting for the next episode of Lawrence Welk to come on the tv. A few days ago I left home early to go to an appt. with my cardio guys. It's dark, icy, and I'm hauling it down the road going MUCH faster than I should have, and zip --- NO LIGHTS! As anybody who has had that happen can tell you, that gets your attention in a hurry. Good thing I was headed to a heart specialist!

Anyway, I'm holding up the show, so here's what I'm listening to at the moment.

I really dig odd takes, unusual covers, etc., so this is right up my alley. A 'New Orleans style' version of "Sweet Child O' Mine"... Cool!

In an earlier post today I mentioned The Great Giver of Inspiration. That's just one of my names for Him, and out of respect for The Forum and everyone who posts here that's about all I'll say on the subject. But I will say that I believe He's always looking out for me. For example: I said that I woke up today with the song "It's a Long Way to The Top" by AC/DC in my head and in my heart. Now I realize why; Bon Scott. He died 34 years ago yesterday, and I've been so busy that I didn't even realize the anniversary was here. But I was reminded, and I'm glad.

Friday. At last. And that much closer to getting this month behind us, which I'm all for. In an effort to get our pulses racing a little, here's one from David Grissom and some other dudes. :-) (No offense, guys.)

Speaking of Mr. Grissom, he's got a new CD out. I'm flat broke at the moment so I don't have it, but hopefully I'll be able to change that soon. Yet another reason why I want February to be over...

Have a good Friday everybody. And a great weekend!

Saturday in the USA! Apartment cleaning day at Chateau Goldtop. Yay. And if I get really wild, I may do laundry later this evening. Ah, the life of a swinging single...

At some point today I'll end up with a guitar in my hands, so it'll be a good day!

Alright! Wednesday in the U.S.A.! Rough night... Lots of pain, not much sleep, and then when I finally said to heck with it and got up, I was greeted with the smell of roughly ten thousand cigs worth of smoke in the hallway of my building. Yuck.

On a more positive front, I got up with music on my mind. Specifically, Blues music. I looked, but I can't locate my Bukka White albums. They're packed away who-knows-where, probably in the bottom of a closet that I'm in no mood to go through right now. So I went to my dependable back up 'radio' - YouTube.

Speaking of smoking, this video has plenty of it. Overall, this film scares me a little, and here's why: It's a fairly small room with a lot of people in it, including some we can hear but can't see. Many are smoking various thangs and doing so in a very casual manner. The women look a little disheveled, a bit frightened, and just plain tired. The men, on the other hand, look positively giddy! Laughing, smiling, singing, chatting up the chicks, and (in at least one case), convincing one to start taking off her boots. Plus, there are French subtitles, which means there's an international element at work. And through it all, Bukka keeps telling us about 'his sweet jelly roll'.

The last thing we see is a dude getting comfortable on the bed, cigarette in his hand and lid on his head. It's probably for the best that the video cuts off when it does...

I had a bad night, which I've already discussed. So about noon I hit the sack to try to get some rest. About thirty minutes ago I'm sound asleep, with thoughts of Goldtops being delivered to me by beautiful wenches dancing in my head, when suddenly I was jarred awake by a JACKHAMMER right outside my door!!!!! That's right; a J-A-C-K-H-A-M-M-E-R !-!-!-!-!-!-!-!-!-! And as of my last check just now, they've struck sewer line! It all seems about right for the podunk known as Amarillo...

Which brings me to this. I am a huge Rammstein fan! I've even given thought to learning their language just so I could enjoy their music that much more. I dream of the day they might come to play here in Hooterville. (Like that'll ever happen!) Many of their videos aren't really suitable for a family forum, but this one is okay. (At least visually-speaking that is; Lyrically I have no idea.)

Hey, when I hear jackhammers, I think of Rammstein!

The jackhammering continues. And so does my listening to RAMMSTEIN! I realize this song isn't exactly pro-America, but I can live with it. As long as they don't hit the point too hard we're cool...

P.S. - When I hear jackhammers I also think of G.G. Allin, but I'm not about to post any of his stuff! It's a bit much.

Thursday. Potentially big news for yours truly. This man and His Family are playing here Sunday, and I may be going. Be still my heart (but not too still!).

Actually, to clarify, I am going! Whether I actually get into the venue or not is another matter, but I will be on the property either way. Even a glimpse of their buses is better than nothing, and I'll take it!

Happy Saturday Everybody! I'm getting excited about tomorrow night. Like a lot of older towns/cities, Amarillo has a main multi-purpose facility that has several rooms of different sizes all under one roof. Here, it's called The Civic Center. (Catchy, right? Always cutting edge, our little place in the cow pastures...) This weekend The C.C. hosts a big car show on both days, bridal shows on both days (one of which I believe is exclusively for 'as yet' unwed mothers), The Memorial Cow Chip Bingo Festival to raise money for Old Women with Fallen Arches and Swollen Calves who Blather On Incessantly About their Grandchildren, and then Willie plays a gig Sunday night. So I'm listening to lots of Willie, Waylon, and other so-called 'Outlaw Country', etc. to keep me in the mood. It's a wild weekend...

I love Willie! You are also making me reflect upon my dearly departed friend from Texas, Bobby Daniels. He went to high school with Mickey Rafael who has been Willie's long standing harmonica player. Those two guys were part of a high school foursome of buddies that also included Johnny Lee Schell and the actor Dennis Quade.

Bobby D was quite the character, thinks for the reminder Lloyd!

You are very welcome! Mickey's about as cool as Willie himself. He's been with Willie forty plus years, and he's never been officially hired. The Willie Way...

I hope your weekend is a good one. If you were here we'd take in the show, and the first round would be on me!
