    Siggy String Breakage

On my DGT, I can usually go for at least 30 hours of play time before I break a string, and often change earlier because of the strings getting dirty. I don't think I've ever broken a string on my CU24.

But on my Siggy (Stoptail), I'm breaking strings after less than 5 hours play time consistently. This seems a bit abnormal to me. Does it have something to do with it being a stoptail while the others have trems? Is it an issue with the nut? Some other issue?

    Thanks

I have been mostly a trem guy for a long time. I recently purchased a couple of stoptails and I'lll throw in my $0.02. I definitely percieve more string tension in the stoptail vs the trem. The trem gives a little bit during bends and I tend to play it with a lighter left hand touch. It used to be that I would have to manhandle the stoptail guitars until I figured out the secret. putting on string 0.5 - 1 gauge lower made the strings feel much better to me so that I played it with the same touch as the trem models. As a bonus I also feel like this opens these models up.

I do not have the answer, but am curious.
When I was very young and played my Les Paul, I broke strings often, mainly the 1st and 2nd strings.
They were 9s EB Super Slinkies.

Since getting back into guitars again May of 2012, I have not broke one string on any of my six guitars, and I run 9s EB Cobalts on all of them.
Only the Gibson SG and little Fernandes are stop tails, the rest are trems.

Where is the string breaking? On the stoptail, at the nut, at the tuner? Same string breaking every time?

Yeah - I would take a piece of panty hose (or something similar) and stretch it over the bridge and saddles - you may have a spur somewhere that is causing the problem.

I haven't broken a string in ages, especially after I started using 10's.
Regardless of string gauges, 5 hours breakge does sound abnormal to me.

They're also very good for getting road bugs off the front of your car without marring the finish.

I like the way my legs look in mine.
If something is too hard to do, then it's not worth doing. You just stick that guitar in the closet next to your short-wave radio, your karate outfit and your unicycle and we'll go inside and watch TV.

Lookin' good Les!! Thanks for the link, it's really hard to find corsets for men and the women's ones aren't long enough in the torso for my frame.
