I'd go with the 5909's then. I think Dragon I's or \m/ pickups would be great as well for something a little more rockin'.

In my experience, 53/10 pups pair well with a solid Rosewood neck... If you can find a set, you will NOT be disappointed. Hans turned me on to them back in the BAM days and I've become a believer since the first set went in my McRosie.

I cannot disagree with this as I had a ME Quatro with 53/10 and love them. I still have a recording with this guitar and 53/10 pickups definitely work well with a solid rosewood neck! Now, finding a pair ~~~

This! I've have both 57/08s and 59/09s in my ME1. I liked both better than the RPs, and went with the 59/09s in the end because I wanted that guitar to have a little more thrust!

I have 2 ME1s. My green one has Dragon 1s, and like Bryan said, they really sound awesome in that guitar. I put 57/08s in my FBJ, and they really sounded awesome. I've since put the 57/08s in my Brazilian necked McCarty, and put the RP back in the neck and a DGT in the bridge. I do like the DGT, but it's definitely brighter sounding. I do like the RP neck, but I'm not a huge fan of the RP bridge. It basically depends on what tones you like, and the style of music you play. I'd recommend Dragons for harder stuff, and 5x/0x for more vintage tones.

If anyone's looking for a set of 53/10s, I found some still available here:

I tried a few combos on my ME SCT and the 5909 was by far one of my favorites until I tried the \m/. I really think those pick ups can do metal/hard rock, but they are much versatile then that. I think you should consider that set too

Hmmm . . . . Versatility is key! Need to hear them first, but really how?

Where did you get the pickup ring?

That is INSPIRING!!! I absolutely love the look! Wow! Give me some Dragons! Love to hear how it sounds!

I may swap out the Bare Knuckle Mules in the 48th St Custom Shop Tele below and put them into my ME to give it the same look! And, put the RP pups into the Tele. Hmmm . . . .

So far 15 favor 57/08-59/09 combination to 11 total of all the other options.

What do you guys think of this? 57/08 neck and \m/ bridge UNCOVERED?

Clearly, 57/08 and 59/09 combination is favored, but the more I play DGTs at GC the more I'm convinced that my ears favor them. Just emailed PRS if they sell and install DGT pups for my ME I.

Decided against \m/ because I have HFS in my CE24 to cover that territory ~~~

So, the Dragon I set arrived last Friday. And, over the weekend I bought a new PRS 1x12 Tuxedo loaded w/ a Celestion V30. I was going to wait until I bought a head for it, but decided to slave it via my Rivera Quiana Studio 1x12.

GLAD I DID! The RP pickups really sound fantastic through this CLOSED CAB! Hmmm . . . . PRS RP likes PRS Cabs! A good dilemma I guess ~~`

No desire to change the RPs in my 2005 ME 1. Good luck in your search and experimentation!

Yeah, I'm now very hesitant to replace the RP pickups as they really match well to Celestion V30 speakers in a closed cab! I may put the Dragon I in my CE24 or CU24 . . . .

I think there are several good options here, but I like the RPs just fine in my ME1, and to my knowledge those pickups are unique to the ME1 - so for that reason I would leave them be. I already have 57/08s (in a ME2) and 53/10s (in a XPRS 2012 P22)...they all sound different, they all sound good. A buddy of mine has a pair of 59/09s in a McCarty and they sound great, too. And the DGTs sound excellent, too...I sold my DGT because I eventually got tired of the neck carve, but those pickups rocked. PRS is definitely making some good pickups these days.

I'm less of a fan of the VB/HFS combo, and I haven't had any experience with Dragon 1s. The Dragon IIs in my old CU22 were OK, but not as good as the more recent pickups.

I am really interested to try the \m/ pickups. I just don't have a PRS guitar that I'm ready to put them in! If they made the new CU24 Floyd with a wide/fat or pattern neck (all other specs the same), I'd be all over it...but no pattern thin for me. Pattern regular is pushing it...it's OK on my 513MT, a little small (unfortunately) on the aforementioned P22.

I tried out a few PRS pick ups on 2 ME SCT. You name it, I tried. It's a matter of taste of course, but I found the best results with the covered 5909 set until I got the \m/ set. Shawn is right, they are very versatile and I can get any sound that I need from a hum bucker equipped guitar with that guitar + pick up sets.

Only if they come with a brushed cover, or no cover
