ATTN MCCARTY OWNER: Mccarty Bridge question: please take a look.

Whats up guys. I was thinking of buying and older mccarty or a modern eagle and am curious about the stoptail bridge. It looks like a wrap around, similar to a 54 les paul goldtop type style? Are these adjustable, are they prone to intonation problems like the early les paul'? does anyone know why they wouldnt use a les paul type saddle bridge with the stoptail?

just looking for input on playablity, intonation. Can you get the action super low with these, are they slinky to play. I am hoping they are better than the original lp stoptail.

    thanks.

I've only had to make minor intonation adjustments using the two small screws on either end of the bridge where it makes contact with the posts...and that was only when using heavier gauge strings. If you play 9s, 10s, or even 11s, you'll be just fine.

It is self intonating and works just fine. You've got no worries.

The PRS stoptail bridge is an engineering marvel. It intonates incredibly well with most normal string gauges.

Agree with the above. And action shouldn't be a problem.
I did however change the studs on my MC58 to Tonepros locking studs.
These are a fraction of mm lower lower profile than the PRS studs,
so you can get the action silly low with those (in case you wouldn't be happy with the super low action you can get
    with the stock studs).

    +1 on everything above.

I love them. The intonation is great, the bridge is simple to set up and maintain, and it sounds amazing (though it is different from a two piece). This is blasphemy, but it's my favorite PRS bridge.

That's an awesome guitar. The bridge intonates really well as long as you're not using really weird string gauges. There are two very inconspicuous allen screws behind the studs that let you adjust it. Set both "E" strings to be intonated with those screws and you're good to go.

My Mira has the same bridge and has Dunlop Heavycore 11s on it right now in Drop C. A slight neck adjustment is all you'll need from the added tension (9s come stock on most PRS US models) and you'll be good to go. No buzzing anywhere.

I threw a set of 13s on my Mira and tuned it to B standard. It did fine. I was expecting the wound 3rd to be way off, but really it was close enough for rock and roll.
