    7 string Private Stock

Have been going back and forth for a few weeks now, but think I've decided to jump and get a PS order placed.
Am thinking I will go for a 7-string based on the Custom 24 with a Floyd Rose..

Aside of the Silverburst PTC 12-7 string conversion (which is insanely awesome) published recently, who else has gone the 7-string route?

Appreciate any feedback and please post any pictures of your 7-string PS beasties!

Below, is an image which is fairly close to what I am thinking and that really caught my attention...

    Thanks,

    James

What would you like to know? Are you going to go with a Floyd as well or are you going to get a stop tail or PRS trem? Also think about what pickups ahead of time you want - PS will not wind 7 string PRS pickups so you are going to have to go aftermarket. They, by default, usually suggest and use Duncans.

    Thx Mike.

At this stage, think I would go either Duncan Nazgul/Sentient or something from my friends down at Bareknuckle.
What are the specs of your 7 string?

    Many thanks,

    james.

Edit - Sorry, yes, I would want to go with a Floyd.

Go BKP. I've got cold sweats on my Mayones and Aftermaths in my Jackson. They are just as awesome in 7-strings as they are in 6-strings.

    Love your mock-up BTW. Awesome.

Just out of curiosity, PRS obviously supplies 7-pole pickups with the SE 7-string Custom 24, "SE HFS" and "SE Vintage Bass" according to the product page. Are they dead-set against 7-string pups for the Maryland-made stuff because it would be simply too low-rate production, and they would feel obligated to offer more than one type a la 59/09, \m/, Dragons, etc?

I'm sure someone has compared the SE 7-string pups with SDs or other aftermarket pups...I need to investigate, since I am considering procurement of an SE 7-string (much) later this year.

    Sorry, slight tangent there...

That's actually not a mock-up, that was an actual Private Stock and that's a picture from the auction! It had a solid BRW neck too, pretty killer piece!

I have Bareknuckle Blackhawks in my PTC 7 and I have Pegasus/Sentients in my SE7s. I like the BKPs but for some reason I am digging the Duncans more. The main reason I personally went with BKPs on our build is because the string spacing was irregular, so standard pickups with pole pieces would not have properly aligned and the blackhawks have a bar. I have fallen out of love with them but again, thats only a personal preference thing and nothing against them.

Well its two totally different schools really. The HFS and VB's on the SE7s are manufactured overseas where its more cost effective and easier to design for a niche instrument. Since PRS doesn't make a core 7 string, and very few PS 7's annually compared to their other models, its just easier to go aftermarket. I would imagine its a lot of work goes into design and then begin manufacturing them so it might not be cost effect. 7 strings sadly only sell a fraction compared to 6 for all companies - including ones that offer a large variety of them.

Mr. Bufford T. Justice, have you seen the 7 string private stock on ebay right now? Aside from the PRS trem instead of a Floyd, I think this looks like your dream gtr. Personally, I think the PRS trem is a better option anyway. This guitar is worth a drooling look either way.

Thats the one on eBay. Im not a fan of the Spitz headstock and also I think I would want a stronger, brighter neck wood (maple) than RW for a guitar with a low B. Vito is a cool d00d though and the color on that axe is insane!

    Both make sense.

I've got BKP Aftemaths on my Mushok baritone, which are insane, but not enough substance for this guitar. But still think BKP's would be worth a look.

Again makes sense, but given Seymour Duncan will do custom winds, am surprised PRS won't be more flexible for Private Stock guitars.

Hey Mike, that's a great point, had been thinking about a maple neck, with either maple or ebony board
