This Graphite Cherry Burst beast came in earlier this week. I had to chance to gig with it (2X) this weekend. Loving it!!
I chose a 305 to get the 25.5 scale length. Plus, I do like the heel/neck on my other 305. As a result, the back of this thing 'flows nicely' with the Cherry back moving up to the graphite flame and with a little burst on the edges. Oh yeah, and that top is not too shabby, either! I wanted a fairly aggressive look, so I went with old school black uncovered 59/09 and 57/08 pickups with black rings.
While I was going for a rock machine, tone wise, I am amazed at how versatile this thing is. Probably the thing that stands out, from a wood/materials standpoint, is that familiar sizzle you get from Brazilian Rosewood. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised, but when you back off the volume, in full humbucker mode, its amazing how 'strat like' this guitar is; more so than some of my other creations. I wasn't looking to replicate a Fender single coil tone, I was aiming for more of a humbuckered Super Strat meets vintage PRS, with a hint of Gibby PAF warmth? Unplugged you get some great resonance I attribute to the trem and maple neck. I have other PRSi with 25.5 scale length and this has a similar snap, but once again the braz fretboard balances it out with certain sizzle.
If you can, zoom in on this crazy top:

The back is almost as good as the front?
The neck really pops, it is somewhat difficult to photogragh. Matching Cherry buttons.
