PRS Guitars and Johns Hopkins Are A Winning Team
PRS Guitars and the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins hosted their Tenth Annual Charity Weekend to raise funds for the "Living with Cancer Resource Program", part of the Harry J. Duffey Patient and Family Services Program at Hopkins on October 3 through October 5, 2009. The exclusive weekend event included two golf tournaments and two concerts supporting the tournament’s first–class reputation for top–notch golf, great cuisine, fantastic auction items and great live music.
A private launch party was held on October 3 where Orianthi, Johnny Hiland, Myles Kennedy, Michael Ault and Paul Reed Smith stunned audiences with acoustic performances. Jon Levinson hosted a live auction featuring guitars autographed by Carlos Santana and Buddy Guy. The highlight of the evening was the sale of a guitar autographed by Bruce Springsteen for $9,500. An intimate tournament was held at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland on October 4 followed by a concert later that evening. The Sunday night performance, One Night One Show One Cause featured Davy Knowles & Back Door Slam, Johnny Hiland Band, Orianthi, Myles Kennedy, Derek St. Holmes, Nick Moroch and the Paul Reed Smith Band. A spirited live auction of art guitars embellished by local artists brought in over $15,000. The full field tournament was held on Monday, October 5 at the Woodholme Country Club in Pikesville, Maryland. This was the first charity tournament to be at Woodholme in decades, and sponsors enjoyed great promotions from Sidney Frank Importing and Reliable Churchill, LLLP.
Michael Hibler, Sr., Associate Director for Development at the Johns Hopkins’ Harry J. Duffey Patient and Family Services Program, expressed his appreciation to all involved with special thanks to PRS Guitars for their ongoing commitment and support of the Living With Cancer Resource Program. Mr. Hibler stated, "The proceeds from this year’s tournament will assure that thousands of cancer patients and their families have continued access to much–needed resources during the most uncertain time in their lives." Mr. Smith said, "Being part of this tournament is an absolute honor. Hopkins saves lives."
