Paul Reed Smith commented on the passing of music industry icon Rick Derringer:
“I'm deeply saddened to hear of Rick Derringer’s passing. In every interaction we had, he was always warm, good-spirited and sweet. Not many know this, but I was once in a band called Roadwork—named in tribute to the White Trash Roadwork record, which was beloved by my friends growing up. We learned ‘at the knee’ of that band and Rick himself, discovering that music was something you felt in your heart. His guitar playing in that band was elegant, simple, and powerful – and inspired us. We were also huge fans of Johnny Winter And, one of the greatest rock bands of that era, which Rick was an integral part of. And of course, we all knew and played “Rock & Roll, Hoochie Koo." We’ve lost another icon.”
