PRS Celebrates Music In Our Schools Month

Every March, the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) marks Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®), a dedicated time to celebrate music education and advocate for its place in every student's life. For more than 40 years, March has been officially designated as the time of year when music education becomes the focus of schools and communities across the nation. At PRS Guitars, that's not just a calendar moment. It's a cause that's woven into who we are.

Music education programs across the country are under constant pressure from budget cuts, and schools are often forced to make impossible choices about which programs survive. Federal funding mechanisms like Title IV-A exist specifically to support well-rounded education, including music, but many schools never fully tap into what's available to them. Advocacy at every level, from school board meetings to Capitol Hill, is what keeps these programs alive and accessible to all students regardless of zip code or household income. Organizations like NAfME work year-round to push for stronger funding commitments, and their efforts during Music In Our Schools Month® highlight just how much is at stake when communities stop investing in the next generation of musicians, creators, and critical thinkers.

In 2025, PRS partnered with schools and music programs in several states to stock classrooms with guitars, amps, and educational resources. Those benefitting from donations include Archbishop Spalding High School, Selbyville Middle School, Southern Delaware School of the Arts, Hastings High School, Greater Latrobe High School, and Kent Island High School. These donations help students pick up a guitar, find inspiration, and have a creative outlet within their own school.

The purpose of MIOSM® is to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children, and to remind citizens that school is where all children should have access to music. We couldn't agree more. Access is the word that matters. For many students, school is the only door into music, and if that door closes, it often stays closed.

This month, we encourage everyone to celebrate your local music teachers, support your school's music programs, and help make the case that music education isn't a luxury; it's a foundation.
