Kahlil Nash

Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kahlil Nash is a San Diego based recording artist. Off to an early start, Kahlil began pursuing his dream of becoming an entertainer at the ripe old age of three. Receiving his first guitar while he was in the fifth grade, Kahlil initially began teaching himself how to play music by watching YouTube videos. Inspired by the likes of James Brown, Michael Jackson, Jimmy Hendrix and Bruno Mars, Kahlil refined his craft performing in community theater and local artist showcases. Ultimately Kahlil would go on to major in musical theater and fundamentals at The San Diego School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA). Kahlil is also a graduate of the 1500 Sound Academy in Los Angeles. His debut EP Elation (2016) was released on his sixteenth birthday, and he has since dropped two follow-up records, Transcendence (2020) and Imagine (2022).

FIVE MINUTES WITH KAHLIL

PRS: You recently appeared on the Yamaha Grand Plaza Stage at NAMM for the second year
in a row. How did you land these high-profile gigs?

Kahlil: Networking! Your network is your net worth. Find out who the local promoters are, make relationships with people that do bookings, booking companies, tour managers, etc! Being an approachable person who wears their passion on their sleeve sets you up for success!

PRS: What do you love the most about your PRS guitars?

Kahlil: The pickups are built to perfection and have very little to no hum, no matter if it’s single coil or humbucker, clean or a distorted tone. They have a very sophisticated sound that gives you a basis for a great tone, even if you’re just starting out as a guitar player. Because they started as a boutique guitar company with the utmost attention to detail, they set the basis for overall quality that is hard to beat in any tier you choose.

PRS: We see you performing regularly with your Fiore and Vela, are there any other PRS models that you’ve been wanting to try?

Kahlil: I would love to try the McCarty 594! I could play smooth and sultry RnB/Jazz but it also breaks up nicely, going through a distortion pedal for lead work that breaks up fantastically! I feel like it’s very much up my alley, being a warm, vintage-inspired guitar with a lot of tone versatility.

PRS: What other artists are you currently listening to?

Kahlil: I’ve been listening to Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, Hiatus Kaiyote, and The Foreign Exchange! Modal music has had my attention as of late!

PRS: Are you currently working on any new projects that we should be keeping an eye out for?

Kahlil: I’m going to be releasing a new tune called ‘Get 2 Know Yah’. I’m playing my first festival called Bayfest which predominantly consists of reggae artists and inspired this new song!
